It looks pretty similar, so is the Superleaf a manual evolution of the original Samaritan design?

I'd always thought that the Samaritan's design, auto or not, was Sal's Master's piece. Alas that it has never reached production in any form.

Not identical, but possibly related: The Samaritan displays a fusion of the Military-Calypso design lineages, while the Superleaf seems to add Manix DNA to that evolutionary concept.

I like the blade profile better on the Samaritan. the subtle belly and the swedge are just gorgeous.

Wow that Samaritan looks sweet! Kind of like an automatic Military with a more "Endura" blade!

The Samaritan is an very nice looking knife. It looks to have come really good design elements. What ever happened to it?

I thought i was the only one who noticed this, well i like superleaf handle better. hopefully wont be to much longer til its released

hi Carlos,

Good to see you here.

The Samaritan is still held up in production methodology. there were so many custom parts that we've not come up with the best method.

We had planned a manual version, but realized early last year that Superleaf was too similar to make them both at the same time.

The Superleaf employs the handle of the Superhawk with a more traditional shaped blade. This was a request from the forumites. So we thought to try the concept. It's a stout, strong model.

Hi Sal,

Thanks for the update. Good to know it isn't a permanently filed project. I do prefer the original Samaritan design over that of the Superleaf, as well as S30V over VG-10. The obvious solution to production issues is to relocate production of automatics to here in Arizona. ;)

One thought: Have you considered just making the Samaritan an assisted-opener rather than an auto? Thus with unrestricted sales, and that would also make it different enough to co-exist with the Superleaf. Plus, t`it wouldn't preclude the possibly on an auto variant for the future if the assisted opener pays for ongoing production of itself.

+1

If manual Samaritan would be available, I certainly would get one. I like the blade much more than on Superleaf. I am not crazy about swedge, but can live with it. IMHO Samaritan is very good-looking knife.

I like the way you think  :D
I think when the Superleaf does come out, I'm going to shelf my other knives and use that knife exclusively for a while. I really did love the Superhawk, the grip on that knife is one of the most positive around. I ended up giving it to my uncle because he really loved it and could put it to much better use in commercial fishing in Southern California.

I was not aware of the Samaritan design. It looks to have the back end of a Military with a Delica's blade profile

I'm sure I'd get one whether it was Auto or Manual

Hi Carlos,

We put quite a bit of time nto the original Samaritan design. I think the design will come into production in one form or another.

Assisted openers being manufactured in Colorado is different than selling them. I think that for us, the "powers that be" would prefer the auto to "qualified" personnel as opposed a "semi-auto" to everyone. We have a very good relationship with our town and local government. We try to be a model USA manufacturing company.

The Superleaf handle had quite a bit of "expansion" at the rear to compensate for the pulling of the hawkbill blade. I decided to keep the handle as it was to keep the security of expansion forward and rearward.

I absolutely love the Samaritan design and would love it as an auto but alas I am not allowed an auto in Canada. I would however buy two if an assisted or manual design found its way to production or sprint run especially if it was in the same carbonfire as the CF Lum Chinese. :D
