I've got the Alaskan Guide Buck Vanguard in S30V, probably my favorite knife.

What about bigger fixed blades, in S30V or D2 or something comparable, with flat grind or convex grind ? My bigger knives, like the BK2 and Kabar USMC, are flat grind, but 1095 (which I also like).

But right now I'm looking for a bigger knife than my Vanguard in a great steel. Bark River ? Fallkniven ? Fiddleback ?

Not S30V, but the SYKCO 511 or 711 perhaps? Just to stay within the same price range. Sheaths are extra though.

Is your choice for S30V due to the edge holding ability, rust resistance or both? I usually prefer a tougher steel for fixed blades (usually carbon steel). There are tool steels and carbon steels that will give you better edge holding and/or toughness than S30V if you don't mind less rust resistance, if you're looking for S30V due to rust resistance, Fallkniven (VG-10 and 3G) and Bark river's S35VN and CPM154 blades are a good choice. There's also Spartan blades in S30V. There's the Kabar USMC in D2, Benchmade has some D2 and 154cm fixed blades. There's the Knife Research Legion in Sleipner steel (a D2 like steel euro steel), CRK fixed blades in S35VN.

Scrapyard Knives is new to me, I'll check that out. Thanks.

Both.

I didn't realize the USMC had a D2 version, I'll check that out. Also thanks for the other suggestions, I'll look them up, too. I didn't where to start, so this helps.
