Hi guys, New guy to the forum here. I was researching an Uncle henry knife I have , serial # 83168. I identified it through some online photos as a an Uncle henry 171uh with the serial # listed above but the odd thing is that it doesnt say schrade or 171uh on the blade anywhere. Dont have any pics up at the moment yet but thought this was odd. The blade hasnt been ground down or anything that would show it was just taken off. Any thoughts? Will post pics when i can.

It's legit I'm sure. I'd like to see pictures. Here is an example of a Schrade Uncle Henry 144 stamped the same way.

Welcome to the forum too Woodsman.

It could well be a special factory order for a retailer like Sears, with retailer identification limited to a blade etch which is now gone. Custom etches were much cheaper than custom tang stamps for smaller runs. Sears did buy and use that pattern as did several other retailers. Looking forward to seeing pctures. Meanwhile, look closely at the blade under strong light to see if you can spot remanents of an etch, usually but not allways on blade right.

Back in the late 70's .the factory missionarys traveled the usa introducing the new merchandising case.the way they thanked the store owners for buying these displays was that would sale a knife for a penny for buying one of these displays.
The 171uh had a tang stamp that said, schrade cutlery and the knife no..the 171uh had a satin finish.this knife looks like it was buffed and is a mirro finish, this is probaly why the tang stamp is missing.

Hi Woodsman, I had to find the model of my Ducks Unlimited Knife the same way you did.
YUP! It's a 171UH alright. ;) Here are a couple shots of mine too.
