When I run my fingers across the shield on the 700 series knives, it feels like a sticker. It also looks like a sticker. Possibly an aluminum sticker of some sort. But I know it's not a sticker because I've seen many 700 series knives on eBay with missing shields and there is an obvious counter sunken hole where the shield used to be. I've seen lots of those but I've never seen a 700 series shield by itself detached from the knife.

My question is: Do any of you folks know what kind of material these shields are made of?

I would also love to see what one of these shields looks like when it's detached from the knife if anyone happens to have a photo to share.

Thanks.

I checked all of my nickel silver bolster variations and the shields are strongly attracted to a magnet. I've never seen one rust, so I would guess they are some type of stainless steel. As a side note, the brass bolster 700's have brass shields that are not attracted to a magnet.
