Question about a 154 UH

Don't know how to do a picture but it's simple enough there should be a shield that says Uncle Henry on the handle and there isn't one the blade is stamped schrade 154UH USA

Your question is simple, as you say.
If the blade is stamped "Schrade 154UH USA" - The blade is a USA made blade.
If the handle is black wood, only half of the knife was made in the USA; and half made in China.
If it has a bone handle, or it looks like bone, it is an unfinished knife.
And if you post a photo, Codger will tell you more about your knife...

It should look like this one.

I didn't know about the half and half deal, I bought the knife to replace one thats disappeared. I have the set of OT's and I had the set of UH's I hope this will be a serviceable replacement I'll know when I sharpen it thanks for your help

If there is an indent where the shield should be, it probably fell off. Someone here might have one for you. I have also seen at least one UH which never had a shield; there was no indent where it would have been (it was a 165 UH).

We have not worked out what the handle is made of yet, mybe then he can see if it has an indent for a shield.
The shield is the eassy part to find, I know were there is 100s of shields.

Again, it would be most helpful to see the knife. I pulled one out of it's box to see the stamp and it is "SCHRADE+" over "U.S.A. 154UH" which is evidently different from yours and the one shown above.

Here is a picture of a recently ended auction for a 154UH on ebay, #261671194048. Is this your knife?

Codger 64 that first pick is the knife I bought. I should of waited till I got the knife and there wouldn't have been all this fuss I can see that the inlay was there at one time. Now I think I'll wait till I get the knife and then get a hold of Koldgold for an insert. I do apologize for leaving the plus off the description I am aware of the difference something like that can make, again thanks for your help. The old man in Northern Ind.

Lower Forty Boy:

No apologies needed LFB. But you can see from the two pictures I posted why I said that we needed a picture of your knife to give you accurate information.

To get those two pictures, I used your hint about eBay, went there and searched the recently ended auctions for a shieldless 154UH, saved the pictures, uploaded them to a web photohost, tinypic.com , then copied the tagline and pasted it in my posts here. Much easier than it sounds once you've done it a few times.

Last year I won a "two-fer" deal on a pair of 152UH, one of which was like your 154UH, the shield had either fallen out or was never there. Some shieldless Uncle Henry knives of many patterns came out of the factory liquidation sale. But then again, my first personal interaction with Schrade was when I sent them my 165OT hunting knife to have them replace a shield that had fallen out after many years of good service. At the factory the shields here "heated in", pressed into that slightly smaller molded cavity with a heated press. On your knife as on mine, the replacement shield may press in easily if it ever had one in the first place. If not it could be hard to do and require some effort. I can't tell from the picture whether or not your knife ever had a factory installed shield.

I hope this has been of some help. Oh, and my friends call me Michael. :)

Thank you gents for all your help. Back in. 2009 I had lost my old schrade knife in the crick. I ran onto the knives on ebay and one thing lead to another I met Larry through ebay bought a nice 97 UH off him it's my Sunday knife, living on a farm I just love that saw.Like poor relation when I misplaced my 154UH I came crawling back to the schrade site for help and you came through as usual. The research you fellows do and the information you can come up with is nothing short of astounding. Kudows to you all

All the result of an incurable addiction to the brand and the knives. The lasting friendships that develop are at first a byproduct. Then become a good excuse to continue researching and sharing what we learn. Don't be a stranger here LFB. More than one of us is an old farm boy ourselves. And we gladly tolerate those who don't know a crick from a cricket as well.

Again, search ended auctions for similar knives and average their selling prices. Price varies from year to year and season to season. Right now, selling prices are down slightly.

Yes it appears to be authentic. Why it was never shielded, I can't say. It may have been stock for special factory orders like Ducks Unlimited which would use a different size and shape of shield. It may have been remaindered to a retailer like SMKW, or may have come from the 2004 Schrade factory auction. I don't see anything to indicate that it is a Chinese copy or an actual factory reject.

Would you say that it might be worth 40 50 dollars. I've got a buddy that's interested. I'm trying to figure out a fair price to ask
