Question about a Benchmade

I have an automatic Benchmade that was a fleamarket find. It is identical too the Benchmade CQC7 spec war model except that on the backside of the blade instead of saying Emerson Spec War model CQC7 mine says Emerson Design. Anyone know the model number or desination? Thanks

Before Emerson began his own company, Benchmade produced a number of models based on his CQC7. The basic model was the BM 970. The BM 975 was a larger version. There was also a titanium blade with a carbide edge. I don't know if BM did the auto version or if that's an aftermarket upgrade.

On my 975, it has the butterfly with Bali-Song in it and Benchmade under that with U.S.A. under that. On the right side of the blade (the back) it has Emerson with Design under it all under the inverted V, and on the ricasso it has ATS-34.

Thanks Esav Benyamin. Mine has the exact same markings however there is no linerlock and it has an indention just above the pivot screw that contains the button that opens it automaticaly. In order too close it you must press the button and release the lock.

Great find!

I have a 9700s and the plain edge versions are even harder to find. This knife was the only automatic produced in the CQ series. It's a big thing too, the blade is almost 4", and has quite a kick when opening.

Finding one of these belongs in the 'keeper' category, a nice piece of history. Here's mine:
