A friend brought me this knife to sharpen the other day. I realize that every knife shape performs a function. I have attached a picture of this knife. What function would this knife typically perform. What is the purpose of the large notch at the top? Thanks!

Probably just to look cool, IMO.

I could use it as pot lifter. Hook it under the wire handle and lift on or off the camp fire.

Its purpose is to inflict maximum damage while covertly de-animating enemy sentries. The sharp corner hooks on the tissue so you can rip the entire heart right out. Assuming you didn't simply use the nifty skull-crusher pommel to do the job.

In other words, its real purpose is to part mall-ninjas from their money.

It looks like there was once a saw on the spine and someone ground it off?

The knife looks as if it never had the saw there, but should have. It has no markings whatsoever, no country of origin or what type of steel it is. I suspect that it came from a army surplus store for something under $20. I like the idea of pot holder! When I return the sharpened night tonight, I'll ask him what he uses it for or if it's just a "wow" knife. He brought it to me with a broken tip, so obviously he wasn't using as it in a way that is was designed for. It is an extremely blade heavy knife and I thought maybe with all the extra weight at the tip, it might be used as a mini-machete or for chopping; thus, I put a fairly wide angle (25%) on it.

That knife looks like it came from Pakistan. I repeat my comment that it is a badly misinterpreted copy of something.

I think you should ask gecko45... jk
give him some advice on good knives like esee to replace this one

I laughed and then farted when I read this.

When de-animating sentries, it is extremely important not to fart. One must remain stealthy, you see.

Depending on what you ate and what you expel, that could be considered chemical warfare. It's against the Geneva Convention. So the moral of the story is to make sure you take your Beano before engaging in sentry removal.

i think everyones callin this one right. just chalk it up to a learning experiance about what not to buy next time.
