Hello Bladeforum people. I am new to the forum and to knife collecting. I have purchased several Camillus marlinspike knives, mostly the red bone spikes. All of them have a locking spike that is released by pressing on the bale. Model 695, I believe. The other day, I won this kinife. It has the 4 line stamp on the tang and the blade looks different from the 695. It also appears that the bale does not act as a lock lever for either blade. Anybody have a guess as to the age or any other information about this kinfe?

I collect marlinspike knives mostly because I'm a rag sailor and knot tyer.

This marlin spike knife was made during WWII.

In later years Camillus also manufactured marlin spike knives for Case, Buck and KaBar.

That's interesting. I have two KaBar rigging knives that seem identical in shape and form to my Camillus 695.

And thanks for the help.

The knife arrived today. It is really different from a Camillus 697. About an inch longer. The blade is half again the size of a Navy 697's. Steel liners instead of brass. A half-stop detent for both the blade and the spike. And it's in exceptional condition. It does not appear to have been carried or used much. One of those kinves that I started to look at more closely and got the "Wow" effect on.

Does anyone know the time during which Camillus manufactured rigging knives for Case? I got in the mail today a Case marlinspike, a 6214 RL SS, that looks exactly like a Camillus 697 except that it has the Case oval.

Thanks. I appreciate the info. I wonder who will make them now? That model number is not on the Case website lately.
