Question about a fixed blade

Since the name of this forum is "Traditional Folders and Fixed Blades" my question is about fixed blades. I don't recall any posts about fixed blades since I have been following this forum. Most threads are about traditional folders. What would be a type of fixed blade that would be acceptable to talk about on this forum? I would assume that the assorted "Zombie killers" would not be appropriate, but something along the line of a straight fixed blade of conventional design would be. I have not searched for threads about fixed blades on here, so if there are some and I just haven't seen them, perhaps someone could guide me in the right direction. I know there are specific brand name forums that discuss their own brand of fixed blades, but that is not what I am looking for. Thanks for any input you may have.

Blessings,

Omar

Buck phenolic handle fixed blades, like the 124. Schrade sharp finger is the only fixed blade my father used. Queen and GEC make some nice fixed blades. Cold Steel made some nice old timey fixed blades in the USA. I believe that Canal Street made a dalton holder fixed blade. Bark River has a slew of traditional patterns. The Kephart and Nessmuk patterns are made by a ton of makers. Don't forget puukkos, made by custom makers and factories. I love the puukko design but hate scandi grinds, there are options other than scandi.

You can PM Knarfeng and Peregrin with questions about the appropriateness of your intended topic.

This is the very question I've had on my mind. I've gathered a few fixed blade knives which I think are traditional in pattern, but a bit gun shy to post about them in this section. Please let us know if you contact a mod about this like jc57 said and tell us the result.

Here's a post from my moderating partner knarfeng, that was posted in January.

"Weeeelllll, from the viewpoint of a moderator who is responsible to winnow out non-traditional posts, "Traditional Fixed Blade" is a bit more nebulous to me than "Traditional folder". The best I can say is that I am less concerned about materials of construction than I am the overall features. After all, plastics have been around for over a hundred years. Stainless steel has been around for about 90 years.

It's easier for me to spot features that are not traditional than to say what features are traditional:
Uber survival knives with extra thick blades are out. In olden days we carried hatchets if we wanted to chop wood.
Glass breaker features are out. No one worried about that in olden days either.
Wild unwieldy fantasy shapes are pretty much out, as well.

That still leaves a lot of gray area. I calls 'em like I sees 'em."

The description of the forum is "Discussion of classic Hunters, Trappers, Lockbacks, Slipjoints, Skinners and other classic designs". Hunting knives, skinning knives, bird and trout. Well you see where this is going. Use some discretion and if we see something that is crossing the line we'll gently advise you.

If you'd like to run something by me or Frank (knarfeng), feel free to PM us.

Thanks Peregrin, that answered my basic question. The reason I asked is that I am coming up to 1000 posts and wanted to have a GAW that included a basic fixed blade + a small bonus folder, and did now want to start something not allowed.

Blessings,

Omar

Not everyone is into fixed blades, but to guys like us, Gary, it's one of the core threads. I'm surprised I was the first to post it.

When I think of traditional fixed blades I think of Ka-Bars, Pilot Knives, Morseths, Ruanas, Randalls, Scagels, Hudson Bay, Green Rivers, Nessmuks, Kepharts, Puukkos, and stuff along those lines.

"Did I say that?"
With apologies to Mr. Urkel.
