Question about a knife I saw today.

I went to the hardware store today, and they had a Police on display. I asked to handle it, and I realized that it was much too small to be a Police, as my AFCK was at least 2"+ (overall) larger.

The strange thing is, they called it a Police, and it had the exact same blade profile as the Police, so it wasn't a SS Delica. It also had ATS-55 steel markings.

Any idea what this was? A Japanese model?

My guess is that it was a Rookie. Another of the great Spydie models that are now discontinued. It's profile is identical to a Police but with scaled down specs. Get it if you can, I've owned two and I can say without reservation that it's a great knife.

It may have been, but it was marked "M Police". Not sure what that meant. In any case, the opening hole was too small for my thumb to be comfortable, and I couldn't get a secure hold on it. Does it have a smaller hole than the others?

No the hole is about the same size as on any other model. The Rookie is roughly the size of a Delica. Maybe it was something else.

It was probably the Rookie. I don't know why, but the Merlin seemed much easier to open. Maybe because the hole is completely exposed above the handle?

Well, people in Japan tend to be smaller than people here in America, so maybe the same holds true for knives?...Maybe that was a small Police model?.:D

Yep, it's a Rookie.
In the rest of the world it's called a Rookie, but in Japan it is sold under the label of Medium-Police, and yes it has a slightly smaller opening hole (at least smaller than a normal Police model).
