Question about a seller's claim of a 'factory blued vintage' Sharpfinger

Hi all,
I have search the forum and don't see a specific reference to what I am looking at.

Saw a 'Vintage' Schrade 152 that claims to be a rare 'factory blued' blade. I have done some searches and other than ebay sellers ain't finding verification that Schrade actually factory blued a blade.

I have read many of Codger's timeless posts- what a wealth of knowledge.

By the sheath design on the one advertised, i think it is a 1980's production but not certain.

Any help on verifying those blades came in an original 'factory blued' model?

I don't remember any blued blades.
Bluing solutions and the resulting blue are not "food safe", from what I rememer.

Schrade might have done some wth a military grade phosphate coating., or a plasma coating of some sort.
Just because I don't remember any back in the day does not mean a "lot" or "much".
I may be mistaken, but since blued steel isn't "food safe" it seems unlikely Schrade would blue the blade of a hunting/skinning knife.
BTW, if a "Schrade+" blade it isn't blued.
Stainless steel cannot take a chemical blue.

Also, what would be the point of bluing the blade? Bluing does not protect against rust. Blued firearms get rusty without normal care, including maintaining a light coat of oil on the blued (and case hardened) surfaces.

link is broken. ☹️

thanks much afishhunter afishhunter - I was looking for a vintage Schrade Sharp Finger and just saw the "claim" of a blued blade and that it was "RARE". I thought HUH? never heard of it and was curious. A skinning knife with a blued blade seemed just odd. Sorry about the broken link, I'm trying to figure out how to post a picture and my old brain ain't getting it. I have spent the last month reading many posts and the wealth of info here is amazing, and the kindness of most is unparalleled - so I ventured into my own post. Thanks again for the help

Schrade did have some knives blued or otherwise coated. Often incorporated gold plated etches. As far as I know they had the work done by specialty vendors such as Barron and Shaw Libowitz. I’ve not yet seen a blued Sharpfinger.

Thanks, much. I finally figured out how to post pics- they are in above -post 2

Your info in these threads amazes me- thanks for sharing your expertise

Not a Sharpfinger, but as Codger mentioned, a limited run Schrade 153 with a blued blade and gold plated etch - this one done for a Ducks Unlimited banquet knife. OH

That is a gorgeous knife!

I see what he meant about etchings.
The blade I asked about is pictured in post 2.
I think some seller is trying to bluff (or passing on a bluff they bit on).

The knife above has none of the detail yours shows. Nothing custom about it.

So, I will assume it is a post production bluing for some reason and not original until someone tells me otherwise.

Thx again.

Schrades are misrepresented every day on the secondary markets. Just yesterday I saw a listing for a 1960s, very rare Schrade Walden 897UH for $300 OBO.
It was a rusty Schrade+ (made after 1975) worth about 20 bucks.
I think I saw that one!
Sad but I guess the world we live in.

Unless it has some kind of Baron's gold etch I'm quite sure (unless it was some kind of weird SFO) that they didn't blue plain blades. I'd say someone did that afterwards with an applied bluing agent.

Up in post #2 can swipe left and find more pics. When I zoom in it looks like the blad may have some pits. Might have been trying to cover up.

Thx
