I was advised to seek advice here. I have a stone that after lapping it on sandpaper has the color of coffee with cream. it is smooth as glass to the touch and will not leave dust when I run my fingernail over it. I did some research on line and saw a stone that was brown as an India stone but the is just a visual. Any idea what it is or advice to where I can learn more.

A picture would help - or not. Color doesn't mean much.

Looks like a Japanese waterstone of some sort. I have a similar stone thats 8000 grit.
