I am sure I have seen this answered here before, but does anyone know the significance of an otherwise unmarked axe head with the "A30" on it. It's a Michigan pattern.

Yes True Temper sometimes had a letter and number code stamped in but mine always were True Temper stamped too. I still have a B41 Dayton. I sold an A29 Michigan perfect pattern head last year.

As far as I can tell the first small stamps were model numbers on their Dynamic, Tomahawk and Dynamic line of hatchets(maybe others?).

should have ridges in the eye, and possibly some red paint lingering in a crevice or two.

i have a couple letter/number TTs like yours. a double bit 3.5lb and a couple boys axes.

i believe they were later woodslasher series axes, the lower end homeowner stuff. the boys axes have casting flash or forging flash present still. kinda rough really. the double bit is much cleaner looking.

Not all of them where red and not all will have ridges in the eye. It does fit the majority though.
