Question about attachments

I am currently unable to upload attachments, something I've been doing successfully for years.

The error message tells me that I have exceeded my 10MB quota for attachments, in fact that I'm using 12MB.

It's not a matter of the individual attachment, which is less than 60KB.

When I go to edit an existing post with one of my older attachments, there is a link called "Managing Attachments". This shows thumbnails of hundreds of my old attachments. I can select individual attachments from that list by checking a box on each thumbnail. However, there seems to be no way to delete them from the 10MB file. I don't see a delete button or any other way to delete them.

I also tried looking at my Profile and Settings pages, but found nothing there that applies to this problem.

Does anyone know how one can clear out the 10MB file of old attachments, so I can upload new ones? I'd prefer to delete them selectively, but if that's not possible I'll settle for deleting all the old ones.

I'm posting the question here because I don't know where else to do so.

Hopefully someone smarter than me, (ok that could be everybody) will have an answer.

When we attach via photobucket or one of those places, that picture doesn't go into the managed attachment file does it?

Surely, please don't call me Shirley, I'd be way over if that was the case.

Short answer is I don't have a clue but I'll try to play too and see if I can finger it out.

OK, I figured it out. Here's how you delete past attachments from your 10MB file:

At the top of the Bladeforums page, click Settings.

Under Settings, the left hand side has a column of links. Scroll down near the bottom of the column. Under Miscellaneous, there is a link headed Attachments. Click on this link.

You will see a page with all your saved attachments, listed in reverse chronological order (newest first). Each attachment has a checkbox. You can check one or more of the boxes, then click the Delete Selected box near the bottom of the list.

There are only about 20 attachments listed per page, so if you have many attachments there will be multiple pages. You can select all the attachments on a given page by checking the checkbox near the top of the list (for that page). Then click the Delete box at the bottom to delete all the selected attachments. That way you can delete 20 at a time without having to check 20 checkboxes individually.

In my case I had 19 pages of attachments. I wanted to delete most of the older ones, so I started with Page 19 and worked my way back, leaving Pages 1 and 2 (the most recent) as-is.

Well that solves that. I'm putting you in for a Gold Star.

I'm gonna have to check mine and see what I got in there.

I had the same problem... I had over 20MB in attachments and had to clear out a bunch... I think the new server change had something to do with it.

sad that we lose all those historic photos in older threads. will impede looking up remembered stuff greatly.

I think mine has to be empty since i never knowd how to do it anyhow:D That must be the mouseover small pics some of you post? Ill try that. Im probably about to ax my godaddy account on the account that they stink but then all my pics i posted for the last many years will be gone. Id have to edit the pics back in from another source im supposing.

none are so blind as those who cannot see.

the forum has a FAQ ^ tech support section, it mentions that apparently during the server move, spark, the el supremo of bladeforums discovered that the old server had never enforced our membership level attachment limits, thus we got away with murder. he reset that so it now works and we have to clear out old images. i gather BF was never intended to be an image store for sharp pointies. we can use photobucket and cut/past the img code from there. sadly as i note, if we do it that way, if we kick the bucket and/or lose our photobucket account, all images from there referenced here will disappear.
