Question about bearings

Hey Guy's and Gal's

i recently picked up a socom delta with a bearing system and have noticed a few things. The main thing i have noticed is that if i dont put lube in the knife at least once a day the action is very stiff. I am used to washers where you only need to lubricate the knife every few weeks.

- is this a break in issue?
- do bearings not hold lube well?
- is it just a characteristic of bearings?
- is it the lube that i use ( tuff glide ) ?
- is it a problem with the knife?

Those are the possible things i have thought of. Any thing will help. After only a week or so i am already annoyed with how many times i have had to lubricate the knife.

tuff glide isn't a very good lubricant in my experience
Shouldn't actually have to use any lubricants with bearings. Just wash your pivot w/ hot water and get after it! Should break in soon

For me tuff glide has been hit or miss. it works really well with my Benchmade's, Spyderco's, Emersons, etc... but i have had poor results with my CRK knives and obviously this microtech. The reason that is what i am using is it is what i have with me. My only problem is that when the knife has no lube in it it makes this unbelievable scraping sound and is very stiff.

My Microtech with bearings was a little stiff at first, but it wore in very well without lube.

Pick up a bottle of "liquid bearings" oil. It's just a simple synthetic oil and I use it on everything. I too have found tuff glide to be a mediocre lubricant.
Bearings should never be dry. Any oil or grease not only lubricates the mechanics, but it also keeps away debris and abrasive dust. A dry lubricant won't do that. You'll wear out your races and bearings faster because there is nothing to stop the crud from getting in there. Also as the bearings wear in, little bits of metal get rubbed off, all the tiny burrs get smoothed out, and that matter has to go somewhere. The oil will keep it suspended and off the bearings themselves. Thats why oil turns grey after a while. It's wicking away and trapping all the crap that shouldn't be in there.
