Question about Benchmade Mini Grip

First off, great forum! Lots of good info. As a newbie I got my first Benchmade. The mini grip with hole instead of stud.

My question is the about the hole itself. It has a line indent in it. I contacted Benchmade and was told it is from the laser where it starts and stops cutting. Is this true/correct? I am including a pic (if I get it right) for y'all to see. Hard to believe this is the best they can do. My Spyderco's don't look like that.

Thanks for the help.

My 550HG does not look like that either?. I'm sure Benchmade would make it right if truly bugs you that much?

I say leave the holes to the pro's.:D

My mini Bone Collector and my 555 have that same "problem". It doesn't really bother me that much but I do think that BM should do a little better job as far as this goes.

On a side note I bought my mini Bone Collector at my favorite outdoor store and noticed the line while looking at it there. I pointed it out to the salesman and I got a discount off because of it so it really doesn't bother me on that knife, LOL.

Some Spyderco's have a similar line, it depends on which factory it was made in.

Yes and there have been threads here on it. There are even places on the Para 2, the darling of bladeforums, that have similar marks that are even more noticeable. The mini-griptilian is a good knife at a very reasonable price, I would not worry a bit about the inside finish of the hole. (My daughter and I each have mini-grips but ours have thumb studs.)

Wrap some wet/dry sandpaper around a pencil or small dowel rod and polish/sand it down. That will take care of it and then use the knife to cut stuff.

That can be typical of a laser. work at a sheet metal bender that has 2 lasers and that can happen. Some operators and programming can make this process better. Just like certain CNC operators can make one job better than another...right diameter bit, spindle speed, and cutting path speed.

Some of mine do.

Are they older ones? I think it was a couple years ago (2-3 maybe) I noticed my Spydercos started to come without the mark and a satin finish in the hole and haven't had one with it since then. That was after a bit of complaining on their forum on this topic.

Yes it's correct that it's from the laser.
It's really not an issue. I've owned a few knives that have had those marks and it's really a non-issue.

Just a pic of my Bone Collector to show the OP it's exactly the same as his. Not going to effect the knife but it may bother some and if it does I can also see their side of things.
