question about BK&T knives

I own a BK2, the Campanion, and love it. It's built like a tank and can take as much abuse. The kydex sheath that comes with this model is also quite well made.

Head over to the Camilus forum and search for the model you're looking for.

BK&T Knives are frequently said to be one of the best values in knives. The steel is a good carbon steel, a step up from 1095.

The one criticism I have, and a minority of others have, is that the handles are too slippery. Some people remove the scales and have them sandblasted to solve that problem. Others have roughed them up themselves with sand paper.

Word is that Camillus is going to produce versions of the BK&T line in S30V stainless and with micarta scales (which ought to solve the slipperiness problem). I am eagerly looking forward to these.

My only Becker is the Becker Necker.

Nice thick carbon blade takes and holds a nice edge.

The sheath is excellent for it's purpose, with excellent blade retension.

Outstanding value.

I got a BK2 two weeks ago for my heavy duty yard work chopping knife. I liked the 5.25" long blade with .230" thickness. It has a lot of belly which has worked well for me.

The first day out with it I did some pretty serious branch and root chopping. It was very sharp and really made short work of everything I cut that day short of some axe work I did. What I have been most surprised about is its edge retention. The knife came hair popping, hanging paper cutting sharp. After two weekends worth of work, it still shaves and push cuts paper with ease. No sharpening has been needed whatsoever yet.

I cannot be happier with this knife.

I have carried a Rescue-Dive Tool in my patrol-bag for several years. It has pried a fender off a tire, cut low-hanging telephone lines, and been used to pry open doors & windows for search warrant executions. It is one of my most trusted and favorite knives.

I've had the Brute, C/U7, and Patrol Machete. Brute was traded, but the other two have seen lots of use, and abuse. No complaints about the steel, I just hate those big, slippery handles, having small hands. You'd be amazed at how far the Patrol Machete can fly when it departs your hand on the upswing from hacking low-lying vegetation. Looks kind of like a boomerang, but thankfully doesn't come back
I've ground down the handle slabs from the backside, sanded and grooved them. Much better.

OwenM could you post a picture of your handle modifications, please? The handles are the only thing that could use improvement on these knives, that I can find. I own the BK9, BK7, BK11, BK2, and the BK5 and all of these knives are well worth the money Camillus charges. I can't wait for the extreme line to come out, hopefully the handles will not be as smooth.

I have a number of BK&T's.
Great knives,
Great knives for the money.
Excellent company to do business with.
Great participation on the forums and they interact well with the ELU's (us)Thanks Will, Cheryl, et al
Did I mention that they are great knives? :D

My local bead blaster always offers to do this for free - I always give him $5-15.00, depending on what I'm having done.
Looks great and feels great. I don't know why Camillus doesn't do this at the factory.

TIR,
Sorry, I don't have any pics, or a camera to take them with right now.
I laid the handles flat on a belt sander to get them smaller, sanded the outside of the handles with 60 grit sandpaper, and filed "vertical" (done with a Leatherman tool's file, and look horrible) grooves into the scales.
My Beckers are very ugly. Love 'em:)

I have the BK-7 and is the best tool I have in the house.

The carbon steel is very strong and holds the edge for a long time. I was amazed by how easy is to get it sharp again.

One of the best deals out there.

Get one, you will not be regret.

Sorry for my engish :o

I have BK10 Crewman which is an excellent tool.
I've handled BK7 and i think BK10 is much better for my purposes.
Could be different for anyone of course.
It serves me well in the wilderness and still stays sharp.
When it came i could shave hair on my arm with it, but after prolly 5 months of chopping/cutting it still can slice a paper easily but doesn't shave anymore.

Edit: Almost forgot it has the MOST comfortable handle i ever held. You can cut/slice for hours and u won't get tired or blisters. Plus u can unscrew the handle and use the inside for the survival kit if u need to. Great Storage.
