Question about blade thickness - AR in particular

Hello all.

I just received my first Strider blade. While in no way/shape/form is this a complaint, I was wondering if the information I'd seen advertised that stated (and still does) that the new S30V AR/GB knives have .25 inch blades is in fact a typo. The reason I ask is that my new S30V AR has a 3/16" (edited) blade...

Now, again, a 3/16 blade folder is more massive that one is likely to ever need...not to mention the fact that a 1/4 inch blade would make the already wide handle a bit more out of reach for small-handed individuals...

Anyway, I just wanted to say a word to notify those who are selling these fine blades that if indeed my blade thickness is the norm, that they (the AR/GB) should be advertised as such.

HOLY SHNIKES!!!! 3/8!!!! That is pushing 1/2 inch thick!!! Are all AR/GB's this thick?

Got out my calipers...

On the ramp just abouve my thumbstud it measures 0.190
Just measured alot of surfaces, all at 0.190 , on the thick part of the blade.

Between the liners I get 0.261 thats the only thing I could get at close to 0.250
Where did you see it advertised at 1/4 inch? I havent noticed that before. Brings up a good question.

Could be the old hollow ground ones were at 0.250 thick. When they switched over to flat ground the thickness changed just a tad. Or they just couldnt get 1/4 BG42 at the time.

Hope one of the guys will jump in and let us know.
Like ya said, who cares this thing is a fing tank anyway.

Forgot to add this in.
Who knows what they are doing in the S30V....
And my AR is in BG42

Thanks Skag
Look over at the HI board, I put a few others up there.

  well, I obviously made a typo myself...the AR's blade thickness (mine) is 3/16....not 3/8. Sorry to lead anyone astray... ;) :)

I noticed this minor detail as well when I got my first BG-42 AR last year. When I asked Strider here on the forum they said the folders were never done in true 1/4" so I don't know why everyone advertises them as such and not 3/16"

The new S30V folders are suppose to be the same as the previous BG-42 ones, althought I haven't had a chance to measure it myself it does look the same.

I don't know man, its just one of those mysteries, lol :) 3/16" is more than fine for me too, but can you imagine one of these things with a true 1/4" blade! :D
