Question about BM Andonized handles.

I've been lurking around here and a few other balisong sites for a little while now trying to pick up everything I can learn about them and figure out which one I want to invest in.

I've decided on a BM-47 but what I am now stuck on is which type of handle to choose. One major problem that is holding me up on this is the drastic difference in the look of the andonized handles between different pictures.

I can't tell if it is just from the photography or if they truly vary that much.

Some seem to be dark and rich blues and purples, which look great to me. Then others look like pastel easter knifes.

And then there is a thread over on the benchmade forum that shows one with very little color too it at all, which also looks good to me. I also read on that thread that benchmade is going to be making all of the andonized handles like that, can anyone confirm that?

So, can anyone tell me how different the colors can really turn out with these handles? Or possibly just describe your handles if you own one.

I don't want to spend over $100 on a knife just to be embarrassed to take it out.

I really like the look of the black handles too, so if worse comes to worse I will just get that.

Some of us have thermally oxidized the handles to our 42's (anodizing is electrically coloring the handles, thermally oxidizing is coloring through heat) and I was one of the people, I got tired of the colors (thermally oxidizing gives a rainbow effect since it is very difficult to do it uniformly) so I just sanded them off so that it was the good 'ole silver/gray again. You could get a 47A and if you don't like the anodizing just sand it off so that you would then have a 47. Just a thought. :)

Oh, and BTW, WELCOME TO THE FORUMS!!!!!!!! even though you have been lurking we get to do something official now that you have posted. ;)

well after looking at all three color variations of the 47, and owning a 47BLK, I've come to the conclusion that black handles look the coolest with the drop-point tanto blade.

I have a 42A Pre Production, 42AS Pre Production, and a 47A. All different colors of blue and purple. I enjoy all of the colors though.

BTW, Welcome the forum.

I also have a number of different anodized models, all a little differnt but all very nice!

you can buy the 47 plain and anodize the handles yourself(that's what did). i made mine a dark blue at the bottom and faded it up to silver at the top of the handles(to just below the tang pin when open) but i thought it looked like crap so i sanded all the color off and i'm going to start over.

thanks for the replies.

i think i'm going to go with the black handle for now and later get an andonized one or do it myself.
