Question about Boker Magnum Urban Tank 2

I do not know why, other than we both probably bought them from the same factory.

As far as the 01BO007, we have been making that knife for about 8 years(+/-), and it is a recognized Magnum design.

I would be interested in any response you may have received from S&W in regards to your question.

Thanks,
Terry

There's a lot of this throughout the industry as far as cheap knives are concerned. It's quite common to see the same knife under several different brand names, both well known and unknown. I don't know the details, but it seems Asian (Chinese mostly) factories put out various generic designs and let companies buy and brand them as they like. The Cheaper than Dirt Hard Use Knife discussed in a recent thread in the General section can be found under 3 or 4 different brand names, and Magnum's Western Bowie appears identical to United Cutlery's Large Bowie to me. There's no reason I can see to believe there's anything nefarious going on (theft, copying, etc.) if that was your concern.

I don't think I can get any information from S&W since I couldn't find a lot of knives with S&W brand mark from other dealers at S&W official website.

I now afraid to buy any S&W knives since the ones I got all have China on them, and I don't think they are made by 440c steel too.

I don't care who made what, as long as they are decent and information is true, they are good.

I had this exact Taylor Cutlery knife. Smith and Wesson does not actually make the knives, the Smith and Wesson name is just licensed to Taylor cutlery.

I noticed this too when I looked through the catalog. The magnum knife is much longer in comparison to the Smith and Wesson's, just look at the dimensions. I would say 99.5 percent of the smith and wesson knives are made in China, however I did find a few at my local family owned cutlery store that were made in the USA....a rarity. Of course the made in the USA knives were all over $50 and had a fit and finish that the chinese knives did not come close too.

The Bullseye knife was on the smith and wesson website some months back. I heard from some clerk at Big 5 sporting goods that they were not getting anymore of the Bullseye in. Maybe they were discontinued.

This post sure hits home, it's talking about two of my favorite brands of knife. I am no brand loyalist ... I am always looking for a quality knife at a great price. Boker and S&W usually fit that bill.
Imitation is the greatest form of flattery. I won't claim to know who made who's first. But all throughout the knife industry you will see copies or variations of the same designs.
I own both large frame Magnums and a pair of matching S&W button locks. When you see them side by side there are a number of differences, but it is obvious they are variations of the same concept. Build quality is pretty much the same. I own quite a few S&W knives as well as Boker Plus/Magnums to compare. Taylor does the name justice and BTW they are primarily (not exclusively) made in Taiwan (not China) just like the Magnum line.
Ironically while many S&W knives sell cheaper than a Boker Magnum ... the BO107 is quite a bit cheaper than a SW40.
As far as budget priced autos are concerned though ... Boker definately has an edge with the Kalashnikovs (I have AK74 series auto and liner lock). I have yet to find ANY knife it compares to. I've handled it's cheaper imitations but the emphasis is on cheap as it shows in their quality.

CK5/CK6 variations are still in Taylor's catalog as are the very simular CK105 variations.

Scary enough ... even Cabella's has an inhouse brand variation of these knives albeit they are even MORE expensive ... I passed on picking one up when I saw the price. Shortly after this years Boker catalog arrived. It's been gone through many times and boy do I see some new jewels.
