Question about bone cracks

I recently purchased a GEC #73 in primitive bone. I noticed when I received it that it has a hairline crack from the bolster to the end cap. I should have scrutinized the photos better and asked questions so thats my fault. My question is how likely is it that half the sideplate will eventually fall off? Thanks Bob. Heres a photo showing the crack.

I have been successful at gluing amd sealing cracks using the slower dry Gel type crazy glue. It fills as well as bonding.

Best regards

Your picture is not showing up, but GEC's primitive bone is stabilized, so your crack should not spread or be a problem of any kind. Fissures, cracks, rough texture and other "character" marks are what primitive bone is all about. I would love to see a picture of yours. Here is my #73 in primitive bone. Note the crack running from the shield all the way to the butt of the knife, right through the middle. I'm not concerned at all.

Lets see if this one works. At first I thought it might just be a marking in the bone because its very smooth but on the end of the butt you can see the crack on the edge.

Your knife has already been glued. That's what the Stabilization Process entails. The handle slabs are emersed in epoxy under pressure.

No, no, no!!!! I wouldn't accept that at all. I wouldn't even bother to call the seller/vendor or GEC. I'd just pack it up and send it back with an enclosed note expressing you displeasure and demand a replacement knife or a complete do over of the pictured knife. .

I don't think you'll ever have a problem with it, but if you don't like it, contact the seller and see if you can return or exchange it. You gotta be happy.

As mentioned, if that is the only crack your primitive has, you got extremely lucky. Most people are looking for the cracks, otherwise they'd buy smooth ivory bone. When they first come out I ordered quite a few on the story alone. Got them in and sent most back because of the cracks. Within a couple of days I started getting calls wanting "that primitive bone with all the cracks in it" and "the most cracked up mess you got". So, moral to the story, if you don't like cracks - don't buy primitive bone.

Thanks everyone. It's not a big deal to me but I just wanted to make sure the cracked piece doesn't fall apart.
