Question About Buck 303

I recently came by a used 303. Condition is excellent apart from a few marks to the Delrin scales which is probably from pocket carry.

I am familiar with the date marking conventions for the 110/112 and have found information from this forum invaluable in dating other Buck knives.

My questions is whether these date marking conventions apply to the 303. This particular one is marked: "BUCK 303 U.S.A." over three lines. Liners are brass. The blade is not hollow ground and the nail nick is long and rectangular (about 1 inch long).

Any assistance in dating the knife would be appreciated.

Hi 2manyknives.
You are describing a 1972 to 86 Camillus contract knife. I usually think of this as a second generation Cami. The first generation was from 68 to 72 and has a different tag stamp; Buck…made in…USA. After 1986 303 production was brought in house to Buck and gets a year manufactured code added.

What Will said and add the earliest ones were Schrade contracts. And my favorites...:D
