Hi you guys are very helpful and I tried to use the search feature and browsed a bit before posting, but couldn't find much on this topic..

Anyway, here is my question.. I am really loving the looks of the striders and wish I could afford a tiger striped frame lock one.. but on a recent ebay search I turned up the Buck Strider SBT Police Advocate Knife
and utility knives.. and one is really closer to my price range but it is in 420hc blade instead of ATS-34.. will I enjoy this knife? .. or should I hold out a bit and save up for the ATS-34.. and also how will the 420HC compare to my AUS8 CRKT M16.. thanks for your help
~Jeff

I will buy it in a second if you guys say it will even come close to the CRKT..

Features
- 3.50 in. 420HC steel blade.
- Glass reinforced nylon handle.
- Includes pocket clip.

Jeff...I would heartily recommend the 887 Advocate...excellent fit and finish...my only complaint was the liner lock sits a bit close to maximum engagement...somewhere in the 75% range of throw toward max...locks up solid, dead-centered blade, good ergos, well balanced...I am well pleased...as far as 420HC versed ATS-34 I would not sweat it...420HC will hold an edge well, sharpen easily, and give journeyman service...ATS-34 is a bit overrated in my modest opinion...prefered over 420 for sure but worth the price? Thats a bit iffy...I sold my CRKT M16...no where near the knife of the Buck Strider...blade wore easily, crappy liner lock, choppy action...minimal hardware...but not as expensive as the Buck, either. Buck's warranty is about as rock-solid and trustworthy as you will find, also.....

If you are pleased with the performance of AUS-8A, you will not be disapppointed with 420HC from Buck.

Yeah I think right now it is the ignorance is bliss thing.. im sure once I get my hands on some good steel I will see the difference... thank ya though for the input..

libbyhuck... how does it feel when opening it? does it open fast and smooth and cleanly? One thing Im not likeing is the rivited scales and no way to matience it if they should loosen up ..

I am now debating weather I should get this one or the SOG twitch XL with SAT.. man I want em all .. lol Im sure you guys know the feeling all too well .. anyway thanks again for the insight..

It is thin, but one review I read from Dexter Ewing showed no failures on the FRN-handled, ATS-34 bladed version and he lent it to people who used it to dig and pry. The G10 handled version has a thicker liner, but it's not much thicker. Still, it feels secure.

hey I think I read that same article.. good read..they even ran it over with a 6500 lb suv and was still good to go .. and something like 100 stabs to a car door skin .. ;) sounds like a really tough folder.... thanks again for the input

Jeff..my Buck Strider opens very smooth and fluid...much better than the M16...the difference between the M16's teflon or nylon washers and the Buck's brass or bronze is readily apparent...I also have a SOG FlashII...it is Assisted Opening...handle feels a bit thick for me...I have the aluminum version....smooth opening once wore-in...the Strider is one of my favorite large folders I own and I own several dozen good quailty makes....I would rate it at just a small notch below Benchmade for quality and fit/finish/function.....I doubt the riveted scales will give you any problem...screws come loose, rivets don't...and the blade tension is adjustable...Buck's warranty is first class also....USA-made which is a big plus in my book....China is buying Aircraft Carrier sinking weapons from Russia...gee where do you suppost the money is coming from to pay for that and who do you think they view as the threat??? Remember that the next time you buy off-shore products.....

Looks like 1/8" thick at the spine which is the same thickness all the way down to within about 3/8" of the tip...I like the multi-opening options...use the thumb notch like Spydercos are known for, or use the thumb stud or use the gritty blade spine and "flip" or pull open...it is rare to have at least 3 different opening options...pocket clip is reversable. The knife overall is both slim and easy-to-carry yet robust and hand-filling when in use...a bit of design razzle dazzle and shows some thought and talent went into its design...the "hundreds of an inch factor" was considered in its conception...I am impressed and thats not an easy task!

I held out and I'm getting the buck strider military plain edge with tan handle .. woo hoo .. Can't wait for it to show up .. :)
Thanks for all your help
~Jeff

I've got the Police "Tarani" with the pre G-10 handle. Great knife. You'll love the Military plain edge. I love the handle profile. Good solid grip.

Good choice! That would have been my choice (in OD however just because I love Green). Enjoy the knife and let us know how you like it.

Sincerely,
Anthony
