Question about Busse Game Warden

I can get a custom made Bob Dozier with a sheath (I have 5) or a Gene Ingram in S30V with sheath (I have 1) for less than the cost of a Busse Game Warden with no sheath. Please tell me why I should consider buying the GM plus the extra cost of a sheath? I'm sure they are great knives but I think I'm missing the "secret".

INFI is great steel but is it really that much better the Bob's Rc 60-61 D2 or Crucible's S30V? Help me to understand. I'm walking the tight wire on buying my first Game Warden but I need that little "nudge of understanding".

Also, why are there always so many Busses and Swamp Rats for sale on the forum? Is this how Busse sells its wares?

Many Thanks

Bob's knives are great knives. I have a few. I also have a few Busses. I would say buy at least one of each! I know that doesn't really answer your question. I would say get the GW , test it out and if it doesn't stand up to the billing, sell it and buy a Dozier. You will like the GW very much. It's hard to explain why or if one is better than another, you gotta see for yourself!

People usually sell their Busses or Swamps in order to buy another. Busse only sells their product straight from their site, one model at a time, and the Busse Company Store (separate from Busse Knife Co.) usually has offerings too. Anything else is just secondary market sellers. Some are trying to make a buck, some have to sell their 'investment' to cover other expenses, some just want to buy another Busse and need to sell one to buy one....

I like Busses because they are stronger, RUST RESISTANT!, and EASY TO SHARPEN! D2 at Rc 60 is harder to sharpen, and less resistant. Busse heat treats their knives for over 80 hours. The choice yours. To me, there is no question which knife is the best.
HOWEVER....... Busses might not look as good. If you want something nicely finished, you might have to look elsewhere.
I also HIGHLY recommend Tom Krein knives as well, who was one of Dozier's students.

This seems to be the case with all the sales you've noticed, lots of people willing to buy. You can only get what the company site or the company store have to offer at that point in time, so the after market is active with all the past models being traded or sold to help the seller finance "another" Busse. It works well for those who enjoy the thrill of the hunt. Busse forum members try to discourage each other from buying large quantities to sell for profit at a later date. Most people comply and become part of a group of Busse fans who respect the quality and customer service of the company and the commaraderie of fellow members, others could care less as it is an open market and buy for profit. I'm happy to be part of the former. You will be very happy with any Busse you decide to buy.

I have a mere handful of Busses, compared to the real addicts. Most are Game Wardens, as these little beauties fit my hand perfectly. With some help from new friends and some 'hard computing,' I've picked up each and every one at the lowest price -- the first price offered at the Busse Company Store.

I also have a few Doziers, CRKs, etc. And I'm slowly picking up a few custom knives as I learn what I like, and which makers 'excite' me.

I use almost every knife I collect. I say almost because a few of the customs are just too beautiful to use -- I can't bring myself to mar the finish or change the contours.

I must admit I like the whole Busse package -- design, ergonomics, cutting ability, the 'character' of the other Busse addicts and the crew in Wauseon...and it's just fun to 'compete' to get a Busse at the lowest possible price. They are excellent wilderness knives, especially the big choppers. The edges stand up to extreme abuse -- I can vouch for this personally, and so can many others who have bought Busse.

However -- let's be clear -- there is NO better warranty. Once you have a Busse knife, you will always have a Busse knife. Best warranty in the business -- and that has great value to me. I plan to pass these knives on, each and every one, to my children, grandchildren, etc. Oh -- and a few to my 'step-children' in the military (I'm a retired USAF lifer and have 'adopted' a few of the younger troops in various Services).

If you decide to jump in with the rest of us, I understand the BCS (Busse Company Store) has some new GW designs they're working on...even now.

Either way -- in or out -- it's been nice talkin' at ya.:D

Get one because you already have 5 Doziers and an Ingram. Only Busse has INFI, if you haven't tried INFI yet you are really missing out on something!

You see a lot of Busse for sale here for reasons cstorr2004 already has mentioned. The Game Warden is a limited edition that is reasonably difficult to acquire - unlike the Fusion Battle Mistress which can be directly ordered from the shop (but not for much longer!)

Also note that when ordering from Busse Combat you have to wait for your knife to get made and delivered. Some people are willing to pay a premium to get it now or in a combination that is no longer available from the store.

i ordered a custom k4 from bob dozier. it took 9 months to get it. you can buy bobs knives on websites or directly from him if they are already made.

but a true custom will take time from anyone.

Well, the deed is done. I'm convinced. I'm now the owner of Black Tie Game Warden. I paid the premium price so I didn't have to wait. I'm not that young anymore so "waiting" is a word that I use less and less.

As soon as I get it, I'll be sending it to Dozier for one of his nice, small, flat, horizontal cross-draw sheaths. I know there are a lot of fine sheath makers out there but I've yet to find a sheath that holds the knife as close to my body as Bob's do. No Tek-Lok is the main reason. If anyone knows of a more comfortable and concealable sheath for horizontal cross-draw, please enlighten me.

Thanks for all the input.

Regards

You are very welcome.

And...welcome to the Club. I think this makes you a 'piglet.' But there are other Threads about that.

And now you can officially drink Pig's Nose whisky. (No kidding -- it IS real.)

See -- it was all worth it.:D
