Question about Busse Knives

Help me out here. I know that I'm not the sharpest knife in the drawer :p , but I can't seem to figure out the Busse website. When I click on the "Knives" section to view their various models, all it shows are three versions of one knife! Yet, if I go to their "store" site, they offer several other models not shown on the main website! And, some versions I hear you all talking about aren't listed either place!?! What gives? I saw an ad in the newest Blade magazine for what I think is a "Meaner Street" model but it is one of the ones what doesn't show on either site. Thanks in advance for any clarification that you can give me. :)

Busse Combat, the official site, only offers one or two different models at a time, on a month-long run. They are currently offering the Fusion Steel Heart in three different versions. Sometime real soon, that will switch to a different model or models, and you'll have to wait several months if you want to order a FSH.

The Busse Company Store is a separate business. The BCS buys knives from Busse Combat in a few popular combinations of handle materials and blade coatings, and then makes them available when they come in, first come, first serve. As recently as a few weeks ago, they still had some Active Dutys (sp?) in stock, but they are all gone now. :(

Clear as mud? :)

Not quite true, you make it sound as though the knives are ready to be shipped. Actually it will take 10-12 WEEKS (as I was told on the phone) AFTER ALL ORDERS are done. That is to say that you should not start the 10-12 week countdown until you see new knives on that website.
I hope that makes sense.
BTW, If you want a Busse, they are out there, just post in the Want To Buy forum.
.
By the way, it's not that easy to understand. Clearer instructions would be very, very, very nice. Maybe in two weeks, huh?

Well, speaking as a rocket scientist who does brain surgery in his spare time, I couldn't figure it out either :) Thanks to FHA and WM for 'splainin' it.

Thank you for the responses, gentlemen. Now, if I have this correctly, the fact that Busse is advertising the "Meaner Streets" in Blade magazine this month probably means that it will come up as a new model on their main website soon? And I'll be able to order one then but will probably have a 3-4 (or more) wait? It seems odd that they don't keep a running stock of all the models they have ever offered (unless one was not a good seller).

I don't know about the meaner streets, ask over in the Busse forum (manufacturers forums) and as far keeping stock on hand goes, forget aoubt it. They are a small shop who care only about QUALITY. It's like a Randall or any other small quality shop.

Yah, didn't mean to make it sound like they actually had stock of the knives they are advertising in a particular month.

Prof, as I understand it, the reason they don't keep a stock is that every knife they make is ... well, "semi-custom"* I guess. You pick the handle materials and blade coatings from a fairly wide range of options. I suppose they could in theory make a few extra of the most popular options... but that's what the "Company Store" is for.

*I am completely unfamiliar with the ins and outs of custom knife jargon, so if "semi-custom" means something else, mea culpa.

Wrong.
The Meaner Street and Leaner Meaner Street were the offerings before the current FSH offering. The company store should have some when the shipments start.

OK, now I get it! Thanks to all for your explanations. I hadn't realized that the Busse production was limited like Randall knives. I thought they were a "factory" type set up. Of course, this would explain the high quality and very loyal following these knives enjoy. Thanks, too, csbjr for the info on the Meaner Streets. I'll keep checking the Busse store site for one of those!

i have a meaner street on order and just received confirmation that they are beginning to ship. many of the hogs order several of the current models and sell off some of them in the exchange forum. imo this is an easy way to get the new models you are looking for.
hope this helps ;)
