Question About Buying Knives from Members

I have a paypal account but am wondering what the usual protocol is for buying a knife from a BladeForums member.

When an agreement is made does the purchaser wait until the knife arrives to make payment? Is payment made first in faith that the seller will indeed send the knife? What if the item is not as advertised...say it was in terrible condition etc...

I'm sure BladeForums cannot get involved here but I'm just looking for general advice from other member that have traded or purchased from other members.

Thanks for whatever help and guidance you can provide...

The proper protocol seems to be the words "I'll take it" in the thread that has the item for sale. Then you jujst send a payment via PayPal. As a buyer PayPal seems the way to go. I've bought quite a few blades here that way with no problem.

I have always Paypaled up front and never had any problems.
I think there is actually verry few people who are out to just rip you off here.

If your worried about the condition of the knife you can easily get some extra pics e-mailed.

go look in tgbu for members who have been ripped off. a good one to read is the first one below the stickys.

I use the I-Trader for a quick review of other transactions the guy has made, if he is new to forum, you might ask questions, but I have NEVER been ripped by a long time member. I always pay up front. Never have I had problems with product being shipped. The Good Bad and Ugly is a great place for looking out for shysters, but I-Trader is good for a quick review, then go to the GB&U as Richard said.

Thanks everyone for the guidance..much appreciated.

Anyone know where I can find this "iTrader" deal?

The seller sets the terms for how the deal is going to go down. They will generally want to be paid first, but sometimes, if they know you or know of you, they will agree to different terms. If you are new to the forum, you can be pretty sure you are going to be required to pay up front.
