I recently got some cheese cloth. At the moment something in the in the back of my mind told me that cheese cloth has some survival applications, but truth be told I can't remember any now. I did a search and only found a reference to using cheese cloth to filter water. Since it is 100% cotton and quite fluffy, I would assume that it can be used as tinder for for fire-making. Can anyone tell me or suggest uses for cheese cloth in a survival situation?

i've heard about some people making char cloth out of it, although i've never tried it.

also, isn't "muslin" (the cotton fabric that triangular bandages come in) and cheese cloth the same material? i'm not sure, but if it is, it might be easier to toss an extra tri-bandage in the kit rather than a pack of cheese cloth.

Cheese cloth can be used as a cover over sun drying foods. It makes a fast net for creek critters, various frames can be made for bait fish, fish, or cray fish. It is "Poor mans bug netting".

i use a big roll of cheesecloth to cover picture-windows to create a nice photographic softbox.

not really a survival application, but there you have it......
