Question about chinese outsourcing Wenger knives

A friend of mine told me that around 2000-2005, or maybe earlier, Wenger used some knife parts made in China. But I can't find any information about this online. Can any enlightened collectors comment on this?

If such a practice existed, I understand it didn't affect the quality of the knives themselves?

first i herd of that accusation.
I doubt it is true. As far as I know Wenger and Vic made/make all the blades and accessories in-house. (except electronic components, and possibly the tweezer, toothpick, and ink cartridges.)

The faux "swiss army" knives do not have good reputations.

I've never heard of this either, so I decided to check with experienced people here. I've never seen quality fakes of the SAK, they always have thick cutting edge convergence and poor metal

Chinese made products at that time were pretty shoddy, so short of the little accessory tools coming from there, I would guess you would see a noticable difference. Also, it's not like they didn't already make that sort of stuff in house as it were.

One of the promises of Vicrorinox buying them in 2005 was that all the employees would remain on staff, so I would doubt anything was being outsourced.
