Question about "Chip Flint" style blades....

How are Chip Flint blades made? Is it just random grinder marks on the blade steel?
Is it done manually or is there a special machine that does it?

me thinks it is called a drimmel tool but who kno's

It's done freehand on a belt sander with a small contact wheel behind the belt.

It is much more difficult than it looks to stay random looking...it is so easy to fall into a pattern and ruins the whole thing
