Question about cleaning and lubing?

Friends,
I really love knives that can be taken apart for the occasional cleaning and lubing, without voiding the warranty.
I think it's even better when manufacturers encourage you to do so (Strider,Chris Reeve,Scott Cook).
In fact.....,ever since I became the owner of some of those knives,it has become sort of a "must" that I can take apart my knives....,I mean...,I paid for them so I don't want to have to sent them halfway around the world just for cleaning!
(Also I like to admire the craftmanship that went into a knife!)
Still......,there are some knives that I'm considering buying that do not seem to be designed for the owner to dismantle (Tom Mayo,Jens Anso etc.)...,but I know that if you open/close them often enough, the grease/oil will dis-appear and needs to be re-applied (let alone all the "dirt build-up" inside the knife.)

So how do y'all clean up your Rebels and TMX's and what can go wrong if you take them apart?
I mean....,as beautifully stunning as some knives are....,it's not like a Swiss watch or something,am I right?

Please let me know so I can finally start looking at some other knives that I've been wanting to buy,but didn't just because of that reason!

Thanks y'all!!!

So.......,I guess no one over here has custom folders or bothers to clean them,am I right???

I have several custom folders (not slippies) that can't be taken apart for preventative maintenance. One, a liner lock, was a design flaw. The other two were designed like that.

The rest have exposed securing hardware. Simply. . . . .the makers, that I've talked to, want their users to have a capability of taking their knives down.

As far as Mayo's folders. . . at least the ones that I've owned and do own. . .can be taken down. Including the TMX.

Finally!!!!
Thank you very much for the info,GigOne!!! I appreciate it!

I guess you're the only one over here who knows what I'm talking about!!!

Take care,
Raoul...

I say if they have screws they can be taken apart, cleaned, lubed and admired. Be sure you use the proper tool for the job or it could void the warrenty.

Thanks a lot!!!

I'm learning new things about custom-folders every day,and allready found out that there are some criteria that have to be met!!!

-disassemble capability
-hardened lock-bar
-no bladeplay
-(for a framelock,a lock-bar stabiliser adds a lot of functionality to the folder!)

Well......,that's it for now...,but the more I find out about custom folders, the more obsessed I get with them (and finding the proverbial "holy grail"!!!)
