i have few cold steel folders, mini ak47 and reg size, recon 1 spear and tanto. i'm wondering if any knifemaker can make blade for cold steel folder, i am tired of aus 8a and i am wondering if someone will make the blade only so i can replace my aus8a?

Andrew Demko did a special blade swap for a forum member here a while ago.

It might be worth contacting him to see if he can help you with this.

i know it will be expensive just for a steel blade

Andrew Demko is the inventor of the Triad Lock, and his customs use it. I've had some contact with him, and he's pretty agreeable about weird stuff like this.

(TL's quoted passage was here)

Personally, I doubt that you will be able to find a company which mass-produces replacement blades for CS products in different steel flavors. I'm no expert, but it does not seem like a product that would be in great demand, and I'm pretty sure they would get their pants sued off! The shape of the blade tang is a part of the Triad mechanism, and that might be enough for Cold Steel to prosecute a successful lawsuit.

I'm curious about your thinking, too. I could see having blades that were satin, or stonewashed, or some other finish, for a more formal look or a more functional finish, but the only reason I can see for wanting different steel types is for very different applications. Maybe a blade made of S7 or something if you expect to be doing naughty things, and a blade of VG10 or ZDP for slicing....

Can you explain the thought process you went through?

I'm sure nobody is making alternative blades for CS products, mainly because they would get their pants sued off!

Why are you sure?

Does anyone make replacement parts for any brand of cars?

Okay, Thomas called me on it.

I've never seen a company that makes replacement blades for Cold Steel knives, but I haven't looked, either.

I admit, I should not say I'm "sure", so I'll edit...

i dont think creating a steel blade to fit tri-ad will allow cs to do a lawsuit, by doing that i dont think that is stealing their design for tri-ad

I'm not sure either, but let's apply some logic.

1) To make any money selling multiples, a company has to have a steady market.
2) This is a forum populated by the very knife enthusiasts such a company would target. Non-afi's are extremely unlikely to pay for a replacement blade in a "better" steel.
3) Nobody here seems to know of such a company.

but, can i ask custom knife maker to make one in vg 10 or one in 1095

Sure. As long as you're not going to re-sell the knife or blade, you shouldn't have any problems.

Do you have a custom maker in mind, or are you looking?

Definitely. If you do, find this thread and post an update. I for one am curious how much it costs you to have this done. The custom maker for VG-10 probably has to be in Japan.

i am looking for one and i dont plan to sell my knife, if i do i'll just swap to aus 8a and keep the blade for myself
