I am thinking about trading for a pair of oakley square framed titanium glasses and I was wondering if someone would know how much I should expect to pay to have the lenses in it replaced with prescription scratch resistant lenses if I dont have insurance?.

Thanks in advance...

The last time I had mine done (5 or 6 years ago iirc) it cost me $155. My insurance didn't cover it as I used it up on my contact lenses. Someone at Lenscrafters or the like in Wallyworld might also be able to help.

Should not cost much different from getting lenses put in other frames. So whatever you're paying for lenses without insurance right now, would be pretty close. The real cost of lenses comes from how high the index is. The higher the index, the thinner the lens will be. None of this matters if you have pretty good vision, but if you're like me and can't see worth a expletive, high index lenses become very attractive (unless you don't care and don't mind wearing lenses that could double as magnifying glasses). I get high index 1.74 which is the thinnest lens you can get. My eyes are -7, -6, and I have astigmatism. The lenses alone without the frames set me back several hundred dollars. Lenscrafters cannot do 1.74 HI lenses. I go to a private practice for these. It is not uncommon for me to pay close to a grand for glasses. Thankfully, I make glasses about once every 10 years. I get contacts yearly for a fraction of that cost. I just can't justify spending a grand every year on glasses. I'm also at the age where laser surgery is a viable option.

Anyway, hope this helps. I'm sure I probably gave you more info than you needed.

I got mine probably 5 years ago and I had insurance then, but I cant remember what they cost.

Prescription glasses aren't usually very curved. Are those Oakley's "wrap around" glasses, if so, that could be a problem. Just saying...

Single vision, bifocal, trifocal or progressive (no-line bifocal)? Plastic or polycarbonate? Polarized or just tinted? There are a lot of options, and they all affect the price. My girlfriend works in a Wal Mart vision center, so I could find out. I usually end up spending about $125 per lens on my sunglasses. That is polycarbonate, Polarized, progressive, mirror coat with astigmatism correction.

I order mine straight from oakley. If your military you can use usstandarissue.com, thats what I did. I paid an additional $115 over the price on the website. I highly recommend that you order the actual oakley lenses, and not just a lenscrafter or wallyworld lens. I have two pair of perscrition oakleys and they are everybit worth the the money. I am currently wearing a pair of flakjackets, perscription with polarized lenses,IIRC I paid right around 246 out the door. Oakley does have limitations depending on your perscription. Hopefully this helps.
