Question about CQC-7B and Commander

Hey everyone. I'm looking into getting either a waved CQC-7b or Commander. With the CQC-7b I am somewhat concerned about the lack of guard on the knife. It seems that a knife with a reinforced, peircving tip should have more of a guard to prevent your hand from slipping on to the blade. Any comments?
With the Commander I am wondering how the blade shape lends itself to pieircing. Any comments? Which knife would you all suggest?
The reason I am so concerned with piercing is because at the very rare chance that I have to use my knife for defense almost every movement that I know starts with a thrust. Thanks again for all of the input.
I have lurked on the forum for a while without really posting. I respect all of your opinions and hope to become more active in posting.

Welcome to the forums.

I personally wouldn't worry too much about the "lack of guard" on the CQC7B, the fact the CQC7B has a reinforced tip doesn't mean you have to go stabbing brick walls with it. ;)

The Commander is fine for piercing, remember a lot of stabbing related crimes are performed with screwdrivers and such, which generally have fairly blunt ends, so don't fret, the Commander blade will penetrate just fine (think about the amount of pressure that will be concentrated right at the tip during a thrust).

That said, if you're unsure about the '7 go for the Commander by all means, but failing that, I think you'll find that either will be a great knife. :)

Hi and welcome to the Forum,

If you want a waved blade from the CQC7 with more of a guard, take a look at the SOFCK - this is a great knife:

Ed, excellent choice. I was going to mention the SOFCK and the "Tanto" (seen below with a fullsized CQC7B BT)
