Question about cross company recommendations.

Okay, serious question time here. There's been some Rat recommendations being tossed out there in this forum, and I'd like to know how the administration, ie Jerry, and co. feel about it. In any of the other forums this would be a big a no-no, and IMO it should be avoided because anyone can ask about the two in the general forums or do a search of the reviews and testing forums, or just check the other forum. But, then again, I know my opinion won't count too much concerning this, and after all both companies are in the Busse family. So, what's the word? Thanks.

For what it's worth and despite my affinity for the Rat knives, I try to respect the seperation of the two companies and don't make reccomendations on either board for the opposing maker. However, I would imagine that this may not be an issue for Jerry and Co. as many times I see that the person asking for some info has stated that they can't afford a Busse and are looking for the next best thing - which is of course a Rat. The upside is that they get hooked and will likely step up to a Busse later when they can afford to. Win-win in my book.

Good question! It would be nice to know with all our funnin' around ;) , and, as you say WM, cross company recommendations, that we are not breaking any Busse family and/or business rules. I still think Jerry and Jennifer are laughing their a$$es off at us. Hopefully management responds to this.

Yeah, I agree. I've said it before (and I'm sure I'm not the first), SwampRats are the gateway knife to Busse Combat.

I know that you're asking for the opinions of the Busse crew. They are ultimately the people whose voice matters on things of this nature, yet this is an open forum and here I am. And I just feel COMPELLED to voice my opinion. ;)

Obviously, if someone were here asking about another knife that compares with Busse (in price and claim), I don't think that anyone here would say, "yeah, buy their knives...they're better". We're all here because we know better than that. However, it has happened on more than one occaision that someone came here asking if Busse had knives in the $100 range, or was unable to afford a Busse for one reason or another, and been led in another direction, whether to the other side of the shop or even led to other makers.

The motivation of these responses is not out of pure pride or ego in Busse or politically driven. What I love about these forums is that these recommendations are guided by the interest in getting a person to the best gear that they can afford.

Oh...and RATS RULE!!!!!!

im not really sure how to approach this one. i mean you know that all of the rat bashing is a big joke and it's like the same company right? it's like general motors and saturn. i have always looked at swamp rat as the entry line for the company with busse custom shop being like the cadillac.

imho, take it or leave it, I agree with what has been said so far. Between Busse and Swamp Rat the money ends up in the same place;) Now, if someone came in and asked about two unrelated companies, thats a different story. I view, like most others, that SRK is the entry level knife, and can stand alone as well.

Now, as for cross forum recomendations, SRK is the only knife I would care to recommend as a good alternative to Busse, ok? The close relationship of each is well known, the connections are well known, and its nice to be able to direct those who cannot "yet' afford the genuine article to a place where they might feel more comfortable. I'd rather do this than state they have no other way to go.

Bravadoink needs to set issue straight....

Three Muscovites are demanding 50 million rubles ($1.6 million) in compensation after they found a dead rat in a pack of spicy croutons, the Moscovsky Komsomolets daily reported Tuesday.

The men bought the pack of croutons, a popular beer snack in Russia, in a shop in the capital. However, upon opening the packaging and trying the snack the revolting smell and strange taste suggested something was wrong with the contents.

On examining the contents more closely the three were shocked to find a dead rat among the pieces of dried bread. Apparently the rotting rat had not dried out completely and produced the awful smell.

The rat had been heat processed along with the croutons, a Moscow Sanitary Expertise Centre stated after examining the evidence at the request of the affected party.

Moreover, the rat had been seasoned with the same spices as the croutons, and had several croutons stuck to its legs and abdomen. The expertise proved the rat had indeed been put in the pack by the producing company, a well-known Russian brand.

The three men are now suing the company that produced the croutons, demanding financial compensation.

Skunk - I'm not sure you're aware yet, but judging from some posts on some of the other threads around here, I wouldn't be too surprised to see Bravado squeeking out some Ratty recommendations of his own before long. His tail seems to be straightening somewhat...:D :D :D

:p :p :p

Yep... seems like it was a 'coot he was selling from the safe the other day, huh? Course, it seems like they are pretty intermixed.

A bandicoot is any of about 8 species of small to medium-sized, terrestrial marsupial omnivores in the subfamily Peramelinae (the true bandicoots) of the family Peramelidae; or in a broader sense, any of about 21 species of fairly similar animals in the order Peramelemorphia. This page describes the true bandicoots. The word bandicoot is the anglicised version of "pandhikoku" (piglike) in Telugu language, the species that was originally called bandicoot is the Bandicoot Rat also known as Indian bandicoot

seems to me that when the recommendations are done in the spirit of pointing someone in the direction of a Busse Combat knife via a Rat in terms of the affordability of the later in the hope that he'll buy the former it's ok. But what do I know.

If what you mean is that all Hogs will eventually buy Rats...I think that we've recently seen some fine examples of that.

Just the opposite. All Rats will eventually buy Busse.

Swamp Rat was my gateway drug.

Plus, Jennifer is WAY more better looking than Jerry! By a power of, pick any number higher than 50 or so.

Even after getting Busse blades, I never had any desire to get rid of any of my Rats.

Hey, if it comes out of Wauseon, it's good. Just figure what price point you can work with.

Rob
