Question about CTS-XHP possible fakes! And another question

Hello friends.
I have two short questions that really run me crazy lately, and I hoped you could help me with those. Thanks in advance!

1st: Anyone has heard about CTS-XHP fakes? I mean, are there any reports or something? 'Cause I found this at a really low price and made me suspect: what do you think about it seeing the pics? It is marked as XHP and so, but I don't want to get a fake...

2nd: If this were the real deal, can anyone confirm the actual weight on the new XHP Hold Out I? Because I heard they had different G10, and were thinner and lighter at the scales, but the seller lists weight at 7 oz. Anyone can give input on this, or better yet, first hand measurements? Thanks a lot!

I believe that the Hold Out I did not get the new G-10. So I think it's genuine. I know the Hold Out II and III have thinner, smoother G-10.

All of the logos and lettering on it look correct to me.

It is using the newer 2015 Cold Steel logo.

Did you buy it from a trustworthy dealer?

This looks legit, all logo and printing are in the right place. Also looked at the hardware, stop ping size, screws, g-10 machinings and blade grind, all typical Cold Steel. Notice your pic when viewing the lockbar from the top, you can see one side is slightly more rounded than the others because i believe the lockbar being punched instead of machined.

I have yet to see any fake cold steel knives, why would you think this is a fake? did you get it for bottom dollar

I have yet to see any fake cold steel knives,

They're definitely out there. OP was suspicious because he found it really low priced. I'm wondering if it was maybe an error on the seller's part, maybe they were selling an AUS-8 version(which are going pretty cheap right now) and accidentally sent off the XHP one instead?

Cold Steel's main site has a counterfeit gallery but it isn't up to date so there are more models of the brand being faked frequently.

I saw a fake Voyager ten years or so ago at a flea market once.

There are various fakes on eBay and Amazon though.

One of them looks like an AK-47 but it has a flipper, which Cold Steel hasn't offered yet.

Yeah but the real issue here is if the CTS-XHP are already being faked. It wouldn't be much harder than it's been since today, just mark the blade "CTS-XPH" and with the new logo and "you're good to go".
So I am still afraid it might be afraid, and wanted to give as much details as possible hoping maybe the Cold Steel Moderator or somebody could give an authoritarian answer.
Thanks everybody, and I'll still wait the Rep from CS to answer, but thany you all!

I'll backup Neomentat's statement about not seeing a fake CS knife, but i will clarify it by saying, I haven't seen any "Fake Triad Lock CS".
Per Andrew Demko, the triad lock is damn hard to manufacture right. There may be a youtube video of fake Rajah/Spartan but that thing failed at the first spine whack.
Feel free to wait for official words from CS rep, but if you have owned a few CS over the years you will know that this is legit based on the reasons i gave in my previous post. The amount of effort to fake every single detail, including the blade/g-10 grind, hardwares, stop pin etc is just not worth the ROI. They also need to have access to that high quality peel-ply American G-10, since i haven't see any knife outside US company that has such deep texture, something you dont find in China made models like Spyderco Tenacious.
Just providing additional reassurance in case you dont hear back from CS.

I'm going to second the information in this post. I have not yet seen a fake Cold Steel folder that truly mimics a legitimate one or any fake Triad lock knives. The tolerances involved in doing the Triad lock right just don't lend themselves to cheap clones. The stop pin between the lock and the blade requires precise engineering to get the fit just right. I just did a search on ali express and found liner lock versions of the Tuff Lite, Rajah, and AK-47, but nothing that could legitimately be mistaken for a real CS folder.

I just bought a recon 1 spear point Cts-Xhp from midway USA for a decent price. Afterwards I read some reviews about the company(midway) and wondered if I made a mistake?

I believe Midway is a great company, the shipping is usually happening faster than you can log out of your account. The only bi##h I have with their shipping of knives is the way they ship them. I would bet it will come in a padded envelope and the box will be crushed from someone sitting or stepping on it while in transit. I have three Rajah 2's ($269.97 worth of Carpenter CTS BD1) that were to be gifts that are in the process of being replaced for this very reason while I type this. I had one of the new Spartan's that was crushed too. This packaging process is a far cry of that of Kershaw Guy or some of the others here where the knives are individually protected within a box, sometimes even with a packaging peanut stuffed inside the factory box to keep the knife from moving inside it!

What complaints have you read about Midway?

Well.... They shipped and I received my three replacement knives, guess what? I realize they are most likely overloaded and overworked with the holidays coming BUT I am starting to question my first statement of my previous post.

Here are the highlights of my most recent email to them:

Well guys and gals, you have now officially FAILED as you did not "send knew
knives with non defective boxes"!

Please find attached two pictures, the first being a picture that I took of my
package delivered on November 10,2015 and the second being a replacement
delivered on December 10, 2015 exactly one month later. If one was to compare
the two pictures, one might deduce that the second pictures represents the
exact same box that is shown on the far right side of the first picture. There
is no way this box was damaged in shipping in the exact spots as the first as
it was well packed inside of another box vs the mailing envelope used the first
time.

To sum this all up, this purchase has been a cluster since this order was
originally processed. I again have to ask, why would you ever ship a $269.97
order in a mailing envelope?

Dear -----,

Thank you for your recent email in regards to the way you received your
knife order. I apologize for the frustration or inconvenience this may
have caused you. You are more then welcome to send these knives back to us
and we would be happy to send knew knives with non defective boxes back out to
you since these were supposed to be for gifts. You may download a copy
of our Return Merchandise Form on our website by using the following link:

--------------------------------------------------------------------
We shall see where this goes BUT I am leaning towards just ordering the third from a "real knife retailer" and keeping the damaged box.

There are fakes out there but that one looks good.

Heck, even legit companies "copy" each other's designs. Cold Steel does this to several makers, Fallkniven copied Cold Steel, BM copied the Delica, the Buck 110 was copied by a lot of companies, and on and on. But, they at least put their own names on them and do not try to pass off deficient products as the real thing.

Hello. I have found the box.
Does this reference indicate and confirm, supposing the box is the real deal, that the blade is CTS-XHP?

Maybe the CS Rep can comment or say something about this? Thank you all.

Also took some comparison pics with my other Hold Out I blades. The new CTS-XHP (far left) blade seems shorter than all of my other 3 AUS-8 Blades, and the G10 scales are exactly the same on all 4 models.

No thinner, smoother, or less coarse G10 on the CTS-XHP (left knife). No slimmer scales.

I can only tell the (supposed) difference from the CTS-XHP marking on the blade...

I'm 1001% sure it's fake. I'll give you my address so you can ship it to me so I can hand it over to the secret police.

I actually don't know but your causing hysteria in my brain. Did you say where you got it and why you think it's a clone? I know the logo is different than my hold out 1 Aus 8 and all my other hold out models. Did they change the logos on the new xhp model HO 1's, anybody know? My hold out II xhp has same logo as the Aus 8 models. I haven't seen any cold steel tri-ads cloned exactly like the orginials like others have said. Maybe a first.

I want to refer everyone to Knifecenter.com and the video of this knife. The logo and all else are exactly like the op's knife.
