Question About Darkening

Two months ago I finally got my paws on an exhibition class 5" block of cocobolo. It was highly black figured, contrasting with a very bright reddish orange. To make a long story short, I pulled it out today and I swear it's four shades darker. I white diamond loose buffed it and it rapidly returned to it's original bright look.

My question ...is this darkening only surface skin deep? If it is, can a coco knife handle be buffed once a month or so to regain the bright color and lustre? (on coco I don't use any finish except buffing)

Qustion two...will carnuaba wax stop the darkening? How about Armorall Spray? How about a anti-UV treatment?

Any suggestions...or do we live with it? Thanks.

If at first you don't succeed, then skydiving isn't for you.

The surface darkening is from oxidization, it gets deeper over time. I haven't tried it, but I'm told that wood bleach drastically slows it down. I'd try it on a scrap first. Other than that, the buffing should keep it bright, but I would think it would tend to wear down the handle over time.
