Question about dates on handle

Hi gang!

I noticed something I wasn't expecting on my Small decorated Sebenza last time I took it apart.

The decorated handle has B04 stamped on it. That makes sense, as I bought it brand new last July. The lock handle though, has B03 stamped. I wasn't expecting that... I would have thought that the entire knife would have been made more or less during the same time period. Not that it makes any real difference as the knife is as perfect as can be, but strange nonetheless

Is this common with Sebenzas?

Thanks!

Guy

humm good question...Im sure if you gave the good folks at chris reeve a call they would tell you...let us know what you find. Ive called the shop a few times in the past, and everyone over there is always a pleasure to talk with.

Those markings do not refer to dates. Of that I am pretty certain. Rather is is a reference to the 'lot number' that the slab came from if I am not mistaken. It has some internal meaning at CRK such that it can be tracked back to the stock it came from if need be.

SuperD is correct.

All they are. . . .in-house batching numbers.

Sometimes the numbers match. . . .sometimes they don't. :D

A little more info on the batch numbering system...

To keep it simple, the Letter (A,B,C,or D) denotes the fiscal quarter that the part was manufactured, and the numbers denote the last two digits of the year of manufacture.

So, your two handle pieces were manufactured a year apart (2003 and 2004) sometime during the second quarter (April, May, or June).
