was looking for a general use/camping/stab a fool knife around 6 inches and im a sucher for stonewash so the heft 6 caught my eyes.

problem is that when it come to knife handle im more of a "don't reinvent the wheel" kind guy. im use my curved handle, index finger choil and a slimmer pommel end - like this fobos legion over here.

so can anyone who have handled the heft woodsman tell me how its ergonomics compare? does it lock ur hand in well in saber grip? any feed back on the sleipner steel would be good too. thank you!

I've got the Heft 4 assault, I don't know if the handle is the same, but it looks the same. It feels great in my fairly small hand.

My heft 4 milspec landed today, handle is really comfortable. I say go for it.

I love the handle of both in "normal" uses. That said, I don't like the thinness of any steel integral guard repeatedly crashing into my forefinger (or pinkie in an underhand grip) in thrusts into tough materials if the knife is intended for offensive uses . In my time of doing R&D for multiple companies I have bruised my forefinger and pinkie more times than I could list testing tools in this application, and and I have fractured my pinkie a few times. I wish Robert had brought the handle material a little further down the guard.

I've only taken it outside for an hour today and tested it out. Gave it a few tosses into wood ( sacrilege I know ) tested how well it feather sticked, batonned a little, stabbed some wood with a little force. This one seemed ok.

I know exactly what you're referring to though. I had that issue on the Becker bk14/bk11. Made the knives a no/go.

So for me it depends on the knife/execution of the guard and the thickness of the handle (which allows me to grip tightly and minimizes slip) on whether or not it irritates my pinky or index.

I do agree on the scale material covering the guard being the more comfortable way to go though, that or a real guard:

That is a very good point. I've never tested it for that purpose and I hope I never do.

6 handle is a little longer and a little fatter butt, it is pretty close tho.

Had a heft 4. Liked it ok. Hated the crappy nylon sheath. Sold the knife because of it.

I really really really wish that companies would provide either a good quality kydex or leather sheath. The nylon sheaths are an automatic no-go for me. I'll never buy another knife that comes with one unless I am wiling to make a kydex sheath for myself.

I have had a HEFT 6 for over a year and a half and the handle has worked very well for me. My other go-to knife is an ESSE 6 that I love. That said, the Dpx handle is more comfortable.

It’s as really usable all round and versatile knife including the handle/scales.

thanks for all the info guys. i was hoping someone can talk me out of it but i guess now im out of $160. cheers
