I hope this isn't a stupid question...I have a vintage E.G. Smith bowie with "bumps" on the top and bottom of the scales, all around the full tang. Is this just jimping of brass liners?
Thanks guys! Coined is a new term to me. The knife feels awesome in the hand, and I didn't even notice these when I bought it until I showed my girlfriend the knife and she asked what it was called LOL. I guess the smith was known for hand-making all of his blades, with no power equipment. There is another thread in these forums saying he passed away quite awhile ago. There is still a "Montana Territories knives" that make some pretty sweet blades, but don't know if there is a connection. I got really lucky with an estate sale, I seriously stumbled upon 5 PJ Tomes (2 hatchets, two fixed, and one combo fixed & slip-joint that folds into the fixed handle), and an engraved RA Turnbull (far right). Was a great week! Sorry about the crappy pic.
This one is signed by the Master Engraver "Engr- Lisa Tomlin '89". I reached out to her and she remembered it! She said she also got a similar one from Mr. Tomes around the same time.
Thanks, I also got an armload of users (Buck, Benchmade, Western etc). I think I got a really good deal, but not a "great" deal LOL. Lets just say I'm excited to get my next paycheck from work I kinda got caught up in the moment
