Question about ESEE 5

Hello,

I would like to buy an ESEE 5. I've been checking different websites and I've found one that have the ESEE 5 not far from where I live.

They have two different 5, one with green blade and one have black blade.

The shop sells both with the same price and under the name of ESEE knives... but I realized that the green one is made by Ontario and the black one by ESEE.

I attach the photos of the knives they have in the shop.

Price is exactly the same, is the quality also the same?

I know that RAT have more designs for the 5...

...but didn't found one so similar (like the one they have in the shop) to the RC5 made by ESEE. I also know that the people here in the forum says that ESEE knives are better, but how about this one made by Ontario? Is exactly the same... or at least looks like.

I have to choose one of the two they have for sell in their website, I guess they don't have other models in stock. So my question is, is the black made by ESEE better than the green made by Ontario?

Thank you very much for your help

Juan

I don't own any Ontario knives, and can't speak to their quality. I do own an esee 6, and it is an awesome knife. Go with the legit ESEE 5...

Hello,

Thank you for your comment.

Yes, that's my idea, buy the ESEE 5.

I will contact the shop soon and tell them about the mistake (i guess is a mistake) in their website, since both watches are not from ESEE.

Randall's Adventure and Training® manufactured (and continues to fully guarantee) R.A.T. Cutlery knives (RC-3, RC-4, RC-5, RC-6) built from 2007 until 2010. We have changed the name of our company to ESEE Knives®. The only thing that has changed is the name. We now market our knives under the ESEE®, Izula®, and Junglas® brand names. Randall's Adventure and Training® does not manufacture or warranty RAT knives built by Ontario Knife Company (RAT-3, RAT-5, RAT-7, RTAK, TAK and Model 1 Folder). These knives are manufactured by Ontario Knife Company even though they were designed by Randall's Adventure and Training®.

Also I will ask them which colors they have for the ESEE 5. I will not go personally to buy it, someone will go for me. So I don't want any surprise when they'll give me the knife :)

Cheers

The picture of the ESEE-5 with the green blade looks to be an old picture before they changed their name from RAT to ESEE. As long as on the other side it says rowen they're both the same.

Yes, I think you are looking at the same knife.

RAT is just older stock. For some reason, some silly marketing person thought the name "rat" was not appealing.

Rowan made RAT Cutlery and ESEE knives are the same. However, the Ontario Rat 5 is ffg and thinner than the 1/4" thick saber ground ESEE/RC 5

Thank you very much for all your replies.

I think I'll buy the black one.

All is clear now :)

Again, THANK YOU!
