Question about felonies.

Not all of them. The major one that you loose is that you cant ever possess a firearm.

Let us not forget that little inconvenience known as incarceration.

D7 - And there is that matter of job applications when you get out. Having a Felony arrest on your sheet is usually considered "bad". After Sept 11th there are a lot more background checks being run and hiding arrests is usually considered impossible if you are even vaguely honest about where you have been living prior to your "vacation".

Very little (which is not the same as nothing) is worth it. Consider the costs well and then decide.

And then there's also the death penalty in some areas depending on the severity of the offence... something to keep in mind as well.

Also, if you are an Eagle Scout, you lose it once you are convicted of felony.

hah, hardly anybody votes anyway. then again, with bush vs. gore it would have been useful if more people had voted.

In many states, your rights can be restored, after serving your time, for a felony conviction. I don't know what it takes but it can't be easy.

D7Reamers:

You lose no rights whatsoever for a felony *arrest*. A felony *conviction* is what gets you the goods.

The difference is that an arrest still carries the (legal) presumption of innocence; you haven't *done* anything at that point. Once you go to court, have your trial, and are convicted, *then* you are considered to be guilty and the laws applying to felons now apply to you.

I thought it mostly the other way around these days.

You're gulity until proven innocent.

Yeah, especially with the Secret Military Tribunals Bush implemented after 911. It allows you to be arrested, tried, convicted and executed without anyone knowing anything about it.

Sounds like you do not know muich about the American military or the American justice system. The only way for these people to ger a fair trial if through a tribunal. In our courts, they will most likely be freed due to our evidence rules.

bob,

You are mixed up with common perception versus the real law. Almost anything can be a felony.

My brother-in-law is a homeless mentally ill type guy and was arrested for felony shoplifting. A bag of chips!!! With 3-strikes, I guess that means he could have gotten life in prison? Of course, the fact that he is mentally ill was also given no weight as he had a public defender...
