Question about first production run?

Was at a local BM dealer a few days ago, and the wife found a couple of knives she was interested in (which means I'll have to buy them for her). One of them was marked as a first production run. Will these have any extra value later on if they are unused?

Unlikely in most cases. Some people really dislike blades with billboards, so it can actually reduce the number of potential buyers.

Thanks. One of the knives was a 3150 Impel, the other was a 586 Mini Barrage. Can't remember which was marked. I'm afraid to go back and look because I can't seem to go into the place without buying another knife.

I agree. Most of th FPRs don't carry any additional value than the regular run of the mill production models. The additional writing on the blade is not worth any additional money.

often less desirable for bm enthusiasts. not worth less, just more likely to be passed over by bm guys if you were to put it up on block down road. that stated, they can still have a fun factor. personally, i get a kick out of two or three of a kind numbers & recently snagged a final number as well. numbers that have personal meaning wouldn't be too shabby either.

Good answers. She uses her knives and the billboard on a blade probably won't bother her. As for future value, it's unlikely that it would ever go on the block, we tend to hang onto stuff around here. I mainly just didn't want to hose up something that somebody else might appreciate by using it.

First Production with serial numbers don't hold any more value. There are some that seek out the FP versions; I don't, usually wait for the un-marked blades. The only ones that do seem to increase in value are the prototypes, which are made in very limited numbers. With those, some will put them to use but many won't. They are pieces of history.
