Question about flat stones on ZT 0350 recurve

I was wondering if anyone has experience using a lansky on the 0350. I'd like to know if you can get in the recurve with the flat stones, and if it's a close call, would a shallow angle help? Thanks in advance for any replies.

I've used a lansky on a 0350 with good results. I have to say it was a serrated model though so not a lot of recurve there. Havent had to sharpen my 0360's yet but dont forsee a problem. Hope that helps.

I don't have a Lansky, but I do have a DMT Aligner, which is pretty similar. It works fine. You just end up with 2 points of contact against the stone instead of one.

On a "regular" curved blade, when you sharpen, the edge is in contact with one point at the center of the stone:

On a recurved blade, the edge is in contact with two points at the edges of the stone:

On very steep recurves (like a Spec Bump), it can be a bit trickier, but for something like a 0350 or Blur, just sharpen like you normally would any other blade.

Moved to MTE, the correct place to discuss sharpening. General Knife Discussion is for discussing the knives themselves.

thanks so much for the great responses guys. i didnt want to go at it with flat stones if I was just going to bite into the blade with the edges of the stones. Also, (@Revdevil).. yeah I realized after I posted that I put it in the wrong section. I tried to apologize for it in my second post.. not sure if there's a way for me to move my own thread.

flarp's illustration is perfect.

The Lansky's narrow 1/2" hones will make it a bit easier, in terms of working the inside radius of the recurve. A shallower angle will help to 'flatten' the radius of the recurve a bit; the flipside of going shallower is, you'll have to remove more metal to fully apex the edge. Slow & patient is the best approach, but it can work. I used a Lansky to re-bevel an 0350 in S30V, and went WAY shallow with it. Had to take a lot of metal off, so it was a long project. Still got the job done.
