I picked up a LNIB G10 Civilian SE yesterday, and was wondering when it might have been produced. The reason is because of the steel, it's GIN-1, not the ATS-55 or VG-10, as in the latest versions. IMHO, I got this prime condition Civvie(plus carry case and paperwork) at an EXCELLENT price, only  $75  !!!

Does anyone out there have an idea when the GIN-1 G10 Civvie was produced? Your feedback is appreciated. :D

man you got a steel of a deal there, with shipping mine worked out to close to $300 Canadian.

and the snazzy case you got, new production doesn't come with a case cause all I got with mine was a box :(

Thanks for the reply, Westicle. I'm sure that you won't be disappointed with the Civvie, even though your cost was pretty high. ;)

As for my original question, does ANYONE know when the GIN-1 steel, G10 Civilian was produced????

KBR:

I just received commo from a subject who owns a G-10 Civie with ATS-55 blade (also w/o liner behind G-10 on clip-side). He said he bought his in 1997. Yours was probably produced before his (unless blades used were mixed batches between both GIN-1 & ATS). The liner-less Civies were not run for long before the upgrade to the liner style, though.

Hawkbill, I don't have any liners in this Civilian. So I suppose that it's one of the early models, I haven't received much feedback as to when it may have been produced.

I'm going to be sending it back to Spyderco for the complimentary sharpening and closer inspection of the blade that has some very minor chipping or cracks. (I won't be sure on that until the Spydie crew checks on it.) Mike also wanted me to send a note asking for a production date on this model Civvie. Hopefully(no, I'm pretty sure), that I'll get my answers soon. :D ;) :D

I'm sure you'll get a much more accurate date-range from the company. I ended-up buying that liner-less G-10 Civie with ATS-55 blade and the seller included the sales receipt showing he bought it in Dec 1997.

In checking my old Civilian pouches, only 1 had a G-10 label with a date, and that was 1998 (unfortunately, I have too many G-10 Civies to be sure which one this corresponds to). All the earlier labels didn't seem to be dated.
Good luck in your search.
Brian
