Question about having my Shadow refinished

I posted the question the general section but took the advice of another and will post it here. I have a CRK Shadow IV that I am thinking about putting up for trade and since the finish has faded from years of carrying I was thinking of having the blade sent back to CRK and be refinished and spruced up. I talked to Heather today from CRK and asked if I sent the knife to them if it would diminish the value of it or would I be better off just saving the 27 bucks and putting it up for trade. She did not know either way so here I am asking yall whatcha think.

There are no chips or scratches on the blade just the finish has come off.
 
My question would be, did Heather say they would refurb it? Just wondering since these models are no longer offered.
If so, I'd say your profit margin just went up. Get it refurbished then sell.
 
The OPK are worth more than they were while still being produced. You could cover the cost of having it refinished easily several times over going by the silly prices I have seen of late. The only thing that may be an issue is that the knife will not be in original condition, that matters to some as they would rather have a used knife than a refurbed. knife. You will also have to state the knife is refurbed/mint not new/mint and include the invoice from CRK for the work if you do let it go. :)

Do you have pictures of the knife ? It may be that you think it's worse than it is. :D
 
I have zero issue with being honest even when it works against me so no worries on that and I would be glad to provide the invoice. Haze that is a good point about some wanting it used. I may be better served by offering it as is and offer also to pay to have it treated if the new owner wanted it done. I am not looking to sell it but to simply trade it.

Here are some pics of it, what do you think I should do? The spots on the butt cap are from bumping against my Kimber during years of CC.

That looks like a good well used knife to me, and I like it. It's good to see it was actually used as well, I have seen knives people were thinking about sending back that were better than my mint examples. :p

You will get a better trade offers if you refurb. that knife, I think that is safe to say. People that know what it is will also give you fair trade offers for the knife in that state as well. It's a nice knife the Shadow4 and I think I might be tempeted to refurb. that particular piece before moving it on, to boost ones chances and all that. :):thumbup:
 
Thanks for the advice and honesty. Any idea the value before and after? I understand whatever you response you give is not set in stone but rather a ballpark. Hoping to get a Lg Sebenza for it lol other than that I am not too concerned.
 
What I know about CRK fixed blades could fill a shot glass and leave room for whiskey, BUT I have to say that is a nice looking blade and excellent pictures:thumbup:

To be honest a large Sebenza would be a bit of lop sided trade in your favour even in mint condition, but that is just my opinion. That said the OPK are no longer produced and command higher and higer prices every day it seems. If you stick that knfe on "the bay" you could probably buy a new Sebenza with the money, especially if you get it fixed up by CRK. It's a tough one to call really, that knife is a sort after piece and if you find the right person you'll be flying. Even if you don't you will still make good on it and be well on your way to a large Sebenza.

I wondered why it never updated after I paid my sub :) Thanks! Maybe if I would read the fine print at the top of the page lol I may nee to get hooked on phonics. I hear they help people read gooder!

I pulled the trade and will send it to CRK for some TLC then take your advice Haze on the bay. Thanks again
 
Just an update; I was contacted by another member after pulling the shadow and we worked a deal out. I am very happy and just wanted thank those that chimmed in on this post and for all the advice.
