I'm looking for info on how to heat treat a blade. I would like to start making knives in the future, at this point I am trying to figure out what tools I will need to get started. Is there a special oven I need or will a coal fire in a wood stove work?

Hope I don't sound like too much of a jerk but that's a malformed question and if you need to ask it you probably have a lot of research to do before you make your first successful knife.
You should add the type of knife ypu want to make and the type of steel you are using to your question in order to get a good answer.

In general a wood fire won't be hot enough. You need to get the steel up to at least 800 degrees celsius or hotter.
You can heat treat a simple steel like 1075 or 1084 with some charcoal, a hairdryer, a length of steel pipe, a hole in the ground, and some vegetable oil.

As I said, I plan to start in the future. As of right now, I'm trying to figure out what tools I will need, asking this question is part of my research. Since I don't have any experience, I want to start off with a decent lower cost steel such as 440c or 1095. This will give me some experience with stainless and carbon steel.

Cole2525,

Start with O-1 for a tool steel - it's more forgiving that 1095

440C is an OK stainless but CPM-154 is more up to date and more desirable by users.
