Question about heat treatment

I tried to heat treat some of my knives in a charcoal grill, and well... it didn't go quite as planned. It wouldn't get hot enough and now the blanks are all blackened. Did I ruin them or can I still send them to someone who has a clue what they're doing to be finished off? It's 1084 by the way, if that makes a difference.

They can still be heat treated properly.

They should be fine. Check the stickies on the knifemakers forum. There should be info on where to send them.
