question about how sebenza inlays are made and fitted?

Hi guys! i looked around and googled and didnt find much ... other than what i found in the faq about the "pockets are made in the handles and thin strips of wood are laid in"

but it was a bit vague.

I was wondering how the inlays were made or attached to the sebbie. I know there's a strong adhesive double sided tape, but do the handles get milled out in the shape of the inlays so that they can be inserted? is that the pocket that is referred? was it mentioned in the CRK studio tour on blade hq and i missed that info?

i do see a drilled hole in the handle, so thought maybe the wood has some sorta PEG on it to help with alignment. If what is said to be true: the handles are milled out with the shapes of the inlays and the inlays snap in, then damn, that's some tight tolerances cuz i see no gap between the inlay and the titanium.

if there's a faq or vid or if someone can point me ttowards the info that be great.

You have it correct. Perfectly milled pocket for the inlays to seat into with adhesive. The milled hole is simply to remove the inlays if need be.

Afaik, the inlays are affixed to the sebs using VHB adhesive strips, (Very High Bond). It is an industrial adhesive that takes 24 hours to cure, forming a permenant bond when fully cured. Very difficult to remove. We use it at work. Good stuff.

Good question/thread. I had wondered, myself.

OMG DOOD that is awesome! this video is perfect! now i gotta go watch part 1! thanks so much :)

The Exquisite Blade video will show you in detail how they are both made and attached. I used to use that tape they use at my old job. I can vouch that it will stay on. You had to PRY it off when needing to remove it ruining anything above it. Super tough stuff...!!!
