Question about IRJ's

IRJ's have been made for several years in different steels. My question is... is there a consistent number that can be put on the pull weight? I really want one of the new ones, just for the steel, but don't want a nail breaker.

I have the 2014 IRJ in front of me as I write and after checking the pull I'd say it's a 5-6 on a scale of 1-10. I have not heard of a IRJ being considered a nail breaker. Maybe someone with more info will chime in but this 2014 model has a moderate pull and I like it very much.

The one I used to have wasn't a nail breaker either. My Forest Jack now, that's a different story...

I have a 2015 in CPM154. It's easily an 8. Just as strong as any knife I have, including the Sheffield England ones.
Opening the IRJ is a two step process for me. Nail on the long pull to the half stop ... pinch with fingers and continue to open.
I have chipped a honking thumb nail a time or two but not lately. I've gotten used to it and really like the IRJ :)

There is not good consistency on the pulls. We had at least one year that they were really low. I pointed it out and the next year they were very high. we are shooting for the middle.

Here's to hoping for the upcoming run Derrick. Glad you've stuck it out with this iconic post modern design~

Sounds like I gotta have one then. The IRJ is the right size, single blade, and a high end steel that I don't have. Just can'y\t have a nail breaker. Thanks for the help guys. Stan.

Just wait. The next one will be amazing.

Oooohh. I might have to get another.

My 2014 IRJ is probably a 7-8, but it has mammoth Ivory and I won't ever be able to switch it out without regret. I use it a lot, but the pull is harder than I like.

Your Northwoods are really fantastic lately, by the way. I have been following the #44 and can't wait for a Green Camel Bone!
