I am getting a Vespa model from another forumite. I saw a pic of the knife and it looks cool, but I know nothing about the maker or the actual quality of his knives. I tried his web site, but I can't get in. Any info on him or the Vespa would be great. BTW I am gonna carry this knife. Ivan, if you are reading this, is there anyway I can get into your website?

Sorry I can't tell you anything about the Vespa as I do not own that model. I do however have one of his tantos and it is a beautifully made knife. The grinding is excellent, and the handle is marvellously done. It has a 1/4" thick blade that would go through a steel door.

Ivan is a great guy. He is honest and trusting and someone that I can not recommend more highly. What this gentleman promises he delivers and you just can't ask for more than that.

Edited because I forgot a few words and something didn't make sense.

Have 3 of his knives & highly recommend them - excellently made & solid - his knives will NOT let you down under the heaviest use. Ivan is great to deal with and a really, really nice guy - you can't go wrong with one of his knives!!!! :)

I have a Campos Slim Fighter and I'm real pleased with it. His cord wrap is very nicely done & the openings are large enough to let a lot of the black same show through. At 5" long, the handle is comfortable, gives a good secure grip, & allows for smooth transitions. IMO, his sheath is a real strong point of the overall package. Flat on one side & made from thick Concealex, it is velvet lined and allows for completely silent insertion & deployment. Blade retention is excellent even inverted. I replaced the static cord rig pictured below with a BladeTech IWB loop & it carries great -- the piece hugs my body and doesn't print even through a light shirt.

I am sure you'll be happy with the Vespa. Please post your impressions after you receive it.

Wow! After a day at the forge it is great to get back to the PC and read so many kind words about me! Thanks a lot, my friends!
Regarding my site, I am changing my style a bit - I got bit by the forge bug real hard and am dedicating myself to perfect my skills at it and presently I am dedicating myself mostly at learning how to make Sorocabanas,so I really don't know if I will go on or not with this style, even though I love Japanese inspired knives - so I will not have a site until I have this defined, but it shouldn't take long. Anyway, whatever I make will be shown here at BF.
And, by the way, early in next year I'll be finishing what may be the last lot of my stock removal, chisel ground blades.
When you get your Vespa, feel free to conatct me for anything you need to know about it.

I was able to look at his website, but the English version was not working, so you'll view it in Portuguese (Not too hard to understand if you speak Spanish or Italian.) ;)

By the way, Ivan did you receive my email?

OK Ivan, what do you mean by early next year you may stop making your stock removal, chisel ground blades? You can't bring up something like that and not explain it more fully than you did.

Well, Keith, as I got more and more interested in forged blades, I am seriusly thinking about stop making my chisel ground blades.
Right now I am dedicating myself to learn how to make Sorocabanas as I have a strong interest in these blades but soon I intend to go back to the Japanese style, as I also like it a lot, but with a a more traditional approach.
After a little over one year of making them , I think I fully developed my style of chisel ground blades and took them to where I wanted them to be, but now I am pursuing other challenges.
I know this is a bit radical but I really could not avoid it - there are things one really feel he must do and I felt the need to do this change at this point of my carreer. Too bad I don't have someone to carry on with the chisel ground blades as the porcess of making them was already fully developed and stablished.
Soon I'll be listing the remaining knives - some in K-100, some in 440C, one in 5160 and one in Talonite - in the apropriate forums.

Ivan is one of the most honest and thrusting guys in the business. You can't go wrong with him! Ivan, has my parcel arrived yet?

Are you talking about that Lightfoot you have sent me as a Christmas gift? It has not got here yet... uh, really wish that was true but will be really happy with whatever is inside that box.

I can't get the link to your site to work.

Could I have a dull mouse? No, the mouse is still site popping sharp!

Ivan,

Thanx for replying to this post. That's what I like about custom makers. You don't need to hold on the line for a customer service rep. The VESPA is here but I don't have the day off to get to the P.O. to pick it up. I'll let you know what I think when I get it.

I met Ivan at the Blade show last year. I also got to handle some of his knives. He is a very nice gentleman and a fine knife maker. I would have bought several of his knives had it not been for lack of funds. :(

I don't think you will be disappointed.

Thank you Dennis

Being also used to the other Brazilian makers' work, you know how hard we strive to keep both our work an business quality aways going up.
